Hard Science Fiction Concept IdeaHere's a twist I thought up of on the old "Earth vs. the colonies" concept in hard science fiction. I'm sure I'm not the first person to think of this, but I haven't seen anything in science fiction that takes this route.
In these stories, Earth is normally analogized to Europe: advanced, liberal, democratic, their major sin being that their heads are so far up their asses that they can see their teeth. The colonists, on the other hand, are basically rednecks in space. You'd expect them to be waving around Confederate flags; in some cases, they literally are. What I'm proposing is less flipping the script, but rather expanding the concept more to include more factions.
