Good grief, I was RAISED on Darkwing, I remember his first Episode was premiered on “The Mickey Mouse Club” during the Disney Channel’s transition from an Pay-extra Package channel to a General-Package cable channel, done primarily to compete better with the then brand new Cartoon Network, which had been kicking their Butt all of 1991, although I only figured all that out later.
It was HUGE, and like “Bonkers” was riding high on the grand success of “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”
A few years earlier.
So, don’t tell me about him being her “Real Dad”, or not, because I GET what you mean, I got it when I was 9 years old! I’m just old fashioned in my definitions of things. The way I classify what you mean to be in the spiritual and legalistic dimensions, for example. She’s “The Daughter of his Heart”, as well as his legal daughter. Where we’re getting hung up is on “actual”. I’m particularly old fashioned in how I use that word. “I don’t think it means what you think it means”, as a certain Spaniard might say.
It’s a very absolutist term, and when not modified, say, with something like “Darkwing’s Actual Adopted Daughter”, “actual” has to default to its most basic grammatical and definitional use, which in the classical context, would imply her BIOLOGICAL father. That’s what I was correcting. I loathe letting meanings change when we already had words for the “new” meaning popular laziness cannot be bothered to learn, apparently.
“She Really is his daughter in the show” would have been much better.

Well, I’m sorry this silly hodgepodge language is degenerating so much to cause that confusion.
If anyone feels hurt, that is only because they’re using “actual” wrong. Within the proper usage, it doesn’t denigrate that bond at all, it has nothing to do with it. The concept of “actuality”, by itself, is a very generally deterministic and empiricist one, but in the context of familial relationships, it comes across, again, in that PROPER context, as BIOLOGICALLY Deterministic.
That’s how I have always used “actual” since completing my education. I’ve been aware of the general drift of misuse of the word, as all such muddling Word Crimes get on my nerves, but you are the first to take such serious offense at my proper usage.
I was half jokingly inviting a correction in the original comment anyway, as I had not intended to take this TOO seriously. This is just a silly cartoon, after all, one I loved as a child but I’m an adult now.
