You know . . . one of the MAIN reasons it sucks is because I can't get my comics. And if I did they'd be trashed after a year here.

seriously? That's how loose you pencil before inking?!

Yep. Sometimes if a certain thing needs more work I'll work on it more with pencils then ink it.

Who does this Robert think he is... asking you to change something in one of your panels...? Just because the guy created and wrote the characters doesn't give him a reason to demand a change...

Love the page, though. I love seeing how loose the pencils start out and seeing how they end up. Very cool and very inspiring.

Amazing work as always.
Just wondering: in panel 1, you have a 3 point perspective, but in the pencil version it's pretty obvious you didn't construct anything, yet the inked version is perfect.
I'm wondering whether if you just eyed it or if you constructed it with thumbnails that you later blew up. Or if you have another better method for these kinds of small panels.
Thanks!

I don't blow anything up. I try to go the quick route which is eyeing everything first, then if it NEEDS a grid I'll do a grid, but for small panels like this that really doesn't show much of the buildings I just eye it straight through.

Did you change the last panel without new pencils to work from? That's really impressive.

RyanOttley In reply to squizzlenut [2007-12-02 17:20:23 +0000 UTC]

No I erased it and re-drew it then inked it.

aww, for a second I thought you had crazy-amazing skills and could do it without pencils. (Having said that, I'm somewhat relieved that you can't, 'cause that would be scary.)

Not that you aren't crazy-amazing anyway of course.

Looks great.

By the way, can you do something for me ?
In France, we're stuck at Trade Paperback volume 8 for months, and I want to see what's coming next.

I'm talking about the US version we import here, not the lousy translated one.

After Volume 8, comes volume 9. Heh. It's not ready yet, it'll be a couple more months. The last issue of that volume isn't even in stores yet.

Oh I see, then we're not screwed and it doesn't suck that much to live here.

Thank you Ryan.

A guy named Robert made me change it. He wanted Invincible to be looking at the guy he was smacking.

wow your pencils are so loose , is that your final pencil line before you ink . i guess you can keep it that loose , cause your inking it . how long does a page like this take you to do , watching you draw at the Seattle con a couple a years ago, i see you draw pretty fast . is this page (pencil, ink ) a days work or less time than that ?

ps i think its could that you reply to my questions thanks man !

RyanOttley In reply to HEROBOY [2007-12-01 21:16:59 +0000 UTC]

A pencil page like this takes about 2 hours. Inking takes about 3-4.
