Description
This is the mature female of a local nesting pair of red-tailed hawks I've been watching since early November of last year. I shot this photo of her taking off while watching her hunt in the Back Bay Fens. She has a research band on her right leg, and I've been trying to find out which organization banded her.Back Bay Fens

I don't think I can say I have very many good shots of Hawks, but now I can. This is amazing you caught her at just the right moment. I've noticed you have more photos of hawks and had wondered if you were a falconer?
I've seen quite a few hawks around where I live. I love the birds, and wish I had had an oppotunity to take a photo. but unfortunatly I am always in a car when I see them sitting on a fence post or on a wire or they are always to high in the air for a good camera angle.
I love this photo I have a friend who I think would appreciate the beauty of this one too.

You are welcome. I will definatly read the links you sent cauase I find it interesting that you were able to get close without any of the hawks trying to attack. My friend i mentioned says it may be cause they got use to you. but anyways you have some really amazing shots.

I'm not as close as it looks, my lens has 560mm of reach. Also, hawks (especially red-tailed hawks) won't normally attack unless they feel threatened. I always keep my distance.

That is really good advice. I have seen a few where I live but I am not sure I can get close considering One I have seen likes to sit up on a wire near the road...might not be a good place to wait lol. But i will definatly keep this advice in mind and maybe one day i will get a good shot of a hawk.
