upper michigan / u \ i've had this bae almost as long as i've had colin
but i never quite got around to developing him until recently

upper michigan is actually a completely different place with a separate culture from lower michigan, and from the rest of the united states. when michigan was formed as a territory, upper michigan was originally left out, and ever since michigan became a state there has been controversy over whether or not the upper peninsula should have been the fifty-first state, called superior.
upper michigan has a rly unique culture, which is what attracted me to it in the first place - there are a lot of french canadian speakers, a buttload of native american cultures, and america's largest finnish population. people there actually speak some kind of french-finnish-native american language and it's very interesting to listen to over the radio u v u
oh ye and upper michigan only contributes 3% of all of michigan's population. yeha.

i haven't decided on his last name yet (his first is evan), but it's probably going to be something menominee, seeing as he's french-menominee. and finnish by demographics.
he was raised by wisconsin, for the most part, before being handed over to michigan after it was pulled from michigan territory (which was composed of MI, WI, and MT, i'm pretty sure?).

i'll make lower michigan eventually because even tho its history and culture is kinda "meh" from what i hear, i dislike it when people shove the two michigans into one character
