The aquaphant (hydroelephas amphibious) is a semiaquatic elephant native to the swamps and rivers throughout Kairegorn. Predominantly a gentle creature, it mainly feeds on water plants by day and grass, fruit and other land vegetation by night, also eating shellfish and crabs to supplement its protein. Weighing in at two tons, it is quite large and very fast both in water and on land. It is the only amphibious elephant in the land. They can dive up too fifty feet deep and are superb swimmers, often walking along the river or lake bottoms in search of the best vegetation. Their trunk is also a perfect snorkel.
Living in matriarch-led herds, the aquaphants generally breed in spring, giving birth to a single calf per mother. The male calves leave their mothers after two years, living solitary lives from then on. Due to their thick skin and large tusks, they have little to fear from most predators of moderate size, though dinosaurs, sea serpents, large crocodiles and dragons find them fair game.
Occasionally hunted for their meat by local humanoids, strict regulations are in place to prevent declines in the populations of Aquaphants. The pollution of water in their habitats is also illegal, with steep fines. As a result, the populations of these strange pachyderms has remained stable at over two million. Additionally, to prevent panic and get the aquaphants used to boats, fruit is thrown to the herds to showcase friendly intentions and coerce them to move out of the way.

A semiaquatic elephant that I've been waiting to showcase. Hippos don't exist in Kairegorn, so this animal takes their place. Additionally, this elephant was inspired by a pygmy hippo.
