Description Ryujin terrapelta is a strange ankylosaurid native to the Southeast Asian swamps and mangroves that has changed from a herbivorous diet to a carnivorous one. At 10 feet long, it is a small genus that spends its time walking along river bottoms and swimming after prey. A hunter of fish, small crocodiles, frogs, birds and large shellfish, it has traded its teeth for a razor-sharp beak and bone-crushing jaws like a snap-trap. Additionally, Ryujin has a third hunting strategy; lying in wait on the bottom, it can lay motionless for hours with mouth agape, like an oversized snapping turtle. Though it lacks the lure in its mouth such reptiles as the turtle possesses, it can suck prey into its mouth with a single snap. A caring parent, the female Ryujin nurtures its young for more than three years before they reach adolescence and leave to find new territories. Though it is a powerful predator, Ryujin is also a prey item of numerous crocodiles, larger dinosaurs, the occasional mosasaur, and several pterosaurs. As such, it also carries impressive camouflage to hide it from all its potential predators, with a fully-grown adult often resembling nothing short of an algae-covered rock formation.Β

A carnivorous modern ankylosaur inspired by Liaoningosaurus. Special thanks goes out to for creating its name.
