Description This creature, the last known psittacosaurid and a descendant of Psittacosaurus sibericus, is a highly evolved herbivore that relies on its vicious barbed quills for protection against predators. Though not large (averaging 7 feet long), it is more than capable of driving off most predators. As such, it has little to fear and thus lives a solitary life.

So here is the first entry for the Dinosaurs of the Present Naming contest. Leave a comment or a note for a chance to win. For those of you who are not familiar with the rules or have just started watching me here on DA, the rules are simple:

1. All creatures must have a scientific and common name.

2. As following true paleontological nomenclature, no naming animals after yourself.

3. All name suggestions must be left as notes or as comments in the journal entry regarding the contest.

4. Any creatures with common names but no scientific names are fair game in this contest. The same is true for creatures with scientific names but no common names.

5. Participants may be lucky enough to get a creature named after them. (This is random, so do not be surprised if you do not get a dinosaur or other speculative evolution creature named after you)

You post the suggestions in the journal entry about the contest, not here.

Also, no way it would stay in the same genus.

No problem. Are you going to participate in the contest to name the untitled creatures?

I'm not sure, I don't do names very well, usually.

Give it a shot. Naming things is not hard, only choosing the right one is difficult. (Also, you don't have to do both common and scientific names. It can just as easily be one or the other.)
