Description Seen at the exhibit, Sharks, in the American Museum of Natural History.

Here it is, mates! The one and only Megalodon (Otodus megalodon), the largest shark known to have ever existed (it was so larger that only its head and fins could fit inside)! With its name meaning 'Big Tooth,' this giant shark was known to hunt and prey on whales (along with seals, turtles, and even other sharks). It even had perhaps the strongest bite force of any animal (even than T-rex), with the bite force being up to 41,000 pounds! Now that's a sea monster! That would have made this mega-shark the apex predator of the ocean, even though it did face competition from whale-eating cetaceans, such as Livyatan and other macroraptorial sperm whales and even possibly smaller ancestral killer whales for that role. This was truly the king of the sharks of all times!
