My drawing for the Places Charity ArtbookJapan’s beautiful autumn gardens have always been a great inspiration to me. I love the way the maple trees’ brilliant red leaves seem to elegantly float among the vivid greenery of the garden landscape. Even with an abundance of seasonal colors, these gardens still retain a calm, quiet sense of beauty and peace.
This wonderful artbook is a joyous celebration of all the incredible places here on Earth, and it is filled from cover to cover with so many lovely illustrations. It warms my heart through and through to know that each dream-like illustration is actually inspired from a real-life place - a place that truly exists somewhere here in this beautiful world of ours.

For all my natures scenes, I rely very much on my own experiences to help me capture the feeling of each moment. I've lived in the countryside for most of my life (thus far), and I have traveled to many beautiful places on vacations or day trips. So I've spent lots of time in nature, and much of my art is indeed based off of these real places I've visited or lived in.
But for drawings like this one of a Japanese landscape (a place where I have never been, but do hope to go someday), I look up tons of references to get both a general feel and specific details of the place I want to draw. But these references only help me so much, and in the end, I still do rely on my own experience to help imbue the artwork with the right sensations.

~ Awww, thank you so very much! Haha, yes there are quite a lot of details, aren't there? It's rather funny because I actually try hard not to put in details, but my painting technique and style naturally creates all those intricate details whether I want them or not.
