Description My entry to this week's "spring" themed sketch exchange over at OC-Art-Xchange . I got Daroneasa 's character, Ras (pic below), an alien scientist.

Parsley is a symbol of knowledge, a funerary ornament in Greece, and is sometimes considered bad luck to keep around. Thought it was fitting to what I know about the character.

Hope you like it!

AHHH! This is so BEAUTIFUL! Oh wow, I love how emotional it is, and with his little snip of parsely, the metaphors are extremely apt for him, as well as the source, as the particular culture he hails from is comparable to greece in a lot of ways.
The tones you used are amazing, it doesn't feel like a sketch at all, it seems like a fully realized piece.
The hands really are lovely to look at, in such a vulnerable and graceful posture like that.
I can't even start to convey how happy I am with this; it's been years since I requested in for trades or commissions, and it's always been hit or miss on whether the artist understands the character or can draw him. You've done both.

Ahem.

THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!!

Thank you so much! I'm extremely happy you like it. I really enjoyed the art I found of Ras in your gallery and his story and character sounds right up my alley (I'm a sap for grumpy, sad, snarky characters who undergo tragedy). So I was very inspired to draw him. Thanks for entering the sketch trade this round, it was my pleasure ! Love your gallery, by the way!

I wrote that comment very late. I'm sorry for the leg humping icon. :/

*laughs* I didn't even notice it was humping! That's too funny.

No worries; not offended!

I use it a lot of times when I just mean that I really, really like something a friend drew. But today I was like "Holy cow, I did that to a stranger. No more responding to anything on dA when I've had my ambien for the night." XD

...kay so, I totally blame you, and this comment, for the owwie pain I just experienced in my belly and in my throat from swallowing water quickly before spitting it out laughing instead... OWWIEEE lol XD  You are too silly, my friend.

I think we should ONLY this emoticon to express ANY excitement from now on. XDD

"OMG HAPPY BIRTHDAY"
"I PASSED MY EXAMS!"
"MY MOM IS COMING TO TOWN"

So pretty!! It definitely fits Ras's personality, a bit melancholy like that. You've brought that mood across very well.

(Psst there's an April 2014 folder now. I forgot to make one like 42 times )
