Description This was fun but i'm sorry that some of the background doensn't look too good. I finished this today in time for work so that I could scan it here on DA. This took me about 5-7 hours to do.

Now i know why my art teacher said never use chalky pastels on white paper (that's not even pastel paper) it's because the white will bleed through. Not to mention it smears easier making it harder to see the lines. Believe me i'll never do that again. It was fun but if I run out of pastel paper again i'll make sure to wait until I can buy some before I do anymore coloring. I'm happy because now I can use my pastels again. (I have pastel paper).

Well I hope you enjoy this picture for it is the colored dragon picture I promised.

Oh and yes he does have eyes their red. They just didn't come out like I wanted. My lineart for the eyes made it too small to color them in. So i had to add dots.

I'd use the pastels on white paper just to get that misty,dream-like quality. It would be a good thing to capture in a lot of fantasy work.

very nice colouring it really brings the picture to life. The dragon look menacing and strong. I like the way that his head is down in an aggressive seeming way and he's clutching the edge of the cliff. great job *^__^*

oooooooooooooooooooooo he turned out great! You CAN use white paper for the right subject if you plan it right. I use a light blue a lot so I can stay with an earth color pastel palette when I do portraits, but gray makes a nice background with charcoal and chalk. For this, I might've gone blue for the sky or some earth color for the rocky mountains. HINT: You can watercolor white textured paper and use different colors for different parts of the picture. Let it dry completely before starting the actual pastel work. OR shave a soft pastel piece to a fine powder and rub it over the paper to get two or three color backgrounds if you want to stay all pastel instead of "mixed" media.

Thank you, what I meant is that I didn't use "pastel paper" to draw on, from now on i'm only going to use pastel paper to draw on.

Nicely done for the final. Pastels are a pain in the arse to wrestle with when it comes to doing layers and getting a nice blend. You'll be greasy!

I like the shading around the neck, wings, and cliff. Gives everything a nice depth! It must've taken you such hard work! Brava!

Thank you very much, I wasn't sure how the cliff would turn out but I'd have to say that my most favorite part of the picture would have to be the wings.
