Maud is a miner for precious gems, which she sells to jewelers and similar. She cares deeply for her children and wants the best for them. After Starlight disappeared she only worked harder, keeping her wedding token, the obsidian ring on her necklace, on her at all times.

Starlight is a powerful enchantress. The necklace on her neck is a powerful gem that she enchanted after getting it from her wife as a wedding token. Soon after Amethyst was born and diagnosed with a series of autoimmune diseases Starlight disappeared. According to Maud she is searching for a cure. (Small retcon, Starlight is no longer an ambassador.)
