Description I found it in the art room. It's a sort of high-density concrete used for outdoor flooring. You can probably see the ridges if you look closely.

So, as you do, I painted a zebra-crossing.

Oil paints, roughly actual size.

"So, as you do, I painted a zebra crossing."

So nonchalant. XD It's kind of interesting seeing stuff painted on strange materials.

Got any other weird things you could paint?

Paint on, or paint? Or both?

Probably.

Ohh. Ohh. While I'm still on the subject of painting strange things.

You could paint...you're gonna love this.

You could paint an eggbox on an eggbox.

On an eggbox.

>_>

*runs around the room like a headless chicken*

Hey.

That was completely unnecessary.

All joking aside, though, it'd be an interesting concept piece, I think. No offense meant to you. @_X

Terralite huh.. What's next? Picarbonate?

No, but trying to paint with tinted sodium bicarbonate suspended in butter might be fun.

And a waste of food.

How about paper? Or maybe canvas? Now those would be exotic materials to paint on

I'm willing to bet High Molecular Weight Polyethelene. @_@

Does the "Critique Welcome" thing disappear if you leave it on the default setting?

For some reason (my sense of aesthetics, maybe?) I feel it'd be better without the texture of the slab. But it's a great picture nonetheless.

Also, with the whole "actual size" thing, what pixels to inch ratio are you thinking of?

salmonofdoubt In reply to tseia [2006-09-30 11:42:44 +0000 UTC]

I've got no idea. It didn't before dA revamped their site during the summer, but it now probably does.

It'd be easier to paint, certainly. I think you're right, but it's all 'experiment with different materials! Be original! Wax makes art!' Or in this case, high-density polyethelene.

You know modern art.

Anyway, I wouldn't expect anything too carefully done till about December-ish.

I'd forgotten about different resolutions! Arghh... well, it's about 7x7 inches. If you really want the pixels-to-inch ratio, you can work it out yoursef.

tseia In reply to salmonofdoubt [2006-09-30 21:46:53 +0000 UTC]

Easy - a hundred pixels an inch. Which is a third of what you get in a photo quality print. And it's about four inches on my screen. But whatever.

Actually, it's only in full view I'm not so sure about the texture - it seems to work better when it's smaller.

*Grin* Why don't you?

And don't say lack of paints. I've seen some very impressive stuff done with coffee.

Cheers.

The road's a bit blue for my liking, but otherwise it's all good in the 'hood.

Love your use of unusual surfaces, by the way.

Is that some reference I should know? Cause it went straight over my head.

No jokes about the height. Or else.... *narrows eyes*

You're right about the blue. But it's near impossible to get that paint off once it's on. Anyhow, thanks.

Well, it just means it's all fine, really.

Oh, don't worry. I wasn't going to call you shortarse or anything.

Ah, fair enough then. Like I said, it's still a great picture.

You are one of the most random artists I've ever met Or, technically, not met, but heard of... anyway, you get my point

I've been wanting to ask... *how* do you use oils so that you don't have to wait days and days for it to dry if you want to cover up some mistakes? I experimented, but disaster striketh...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

salmonofdoubt In reply to fishygirl [2006-09-26 18:49:36 +0000 UTC]

You just wait days and days for it to dry. *grin*

Actually, if you paint thinly, it shouldn't take more than two days, tops. Using white spirit to dilute it can work well also. But if you're looking for fast-drying paints with texture, use acrylics.

And thank you. I am honoured.

Oh... so there ISN'T a way to magically dry the oils. Oh well. I guess those renaissance guys just had too much time on their hands... I'll stick to acrylics Thanks
