Description So this represents the world as it is viewed by the Sereer, a senegalese tribe. (mine)

  • The first part is the deity, that is supposedly nonbinary but I chose to represent it as a female because their tribe is matriarchal and the first being created in their Genesis is a woman.
  • The second part represents the world of humans, where I represented a seated man because again, matriarchy, and he is playing the kora, a West African instrument that is very beautiful, listen to its sound here .  The four women represent different period in African history. (Yes we do have precolonial history and it is not stone age.) The first woman is just wearing an African attire because I couldn't find indications about the way women dressed in precolonial African empires, the second one is a lingeer, Ndaté Yalla , a Senegalese queen that fought against French colonists. The third one is Haile Selassie's wife. And the fourth one represents a modern African woman today, I actually have a dress that resembles this, and with the natural hair movement getting popular and stuff well... That's that.

  • The third part, is the ancestors realm, with the old "lady" that is supposed to be dead obviously and is supposed to mirror the deity.

Now, I used thread to represent the energy flows, because it is all about energy. The deity gives energy to everyone, while the humans give offerings to their ancestors thus giving them energy, that the ancestors give back. That's why the deity has an open position, like giving energy to everyone, while the ancestor's arms are crossed.
Obviously the deity's position with the brads is supposed to look like the Christ...

It took me some time, I must admit. I used watercolors for the first time in a big project. And it was not easy at all. If you have any suggestions or tutorial with watercolors techniques that have helped you, I am open. Also... DON'T forget to add a comment AND fav.

The title reminded me of the Dresden Triptych from the TV series Dracula..

Whoa! This looks stunning! You absolutely did a great job painting this. I can see the amount of effort you poured into this.

It´s mostly about tiny brushtips, good paper you work on and big enough to edit little details. Practice will gain you all the rest, but I also recomend big contrasts.

About your description, it all sounds very interesting. Are you by any chance African?

This is a very beautiful piece of art, and I especially love that you explained it. I appreciate when artists do that so I can see their vision for the piece. Thank you for submitting to the group, much appreciated.

For you using watercolors for the first time on a big project, you did pretty well Using watercolors is not easy when you don't have the right paper. I'm still learning to use watercolors properly. I do tend to put a lot of water on a small area with a lot of details on it, causing other colors that haven't dried out yet of it's water to combine ^^'
