No, but really. Don't.

...the weather!
They called for a little snowfall yesterday.
It snowed for ~6 hours or so. The snow is up to my knees, and I assure you I'm not short!

So I have an online photography course I'm taking, if you haven't heard. That means I'm forced to take pictures of things that I might consider boring (my house), even if I don't think I'm a good photographer!

I suppose I will improve.
I just wish spring would come. I like the vivid flowers and the bright colors and happy, happy birds and green and...
...NOT WHITE SNOW!

Done with the snow for this year. Please go away.

Comments and constructive criticism is encouraged! I kind of need to get better for my class. xD

Oh, question to photographers: Does it matter what kind of camera one has? I mean, of course the point 'n shoots (like mine) won't have the variety of options that one of those other (don't recall the name) cameras have...but, how much does your camera factor in on how good your photos are?!
I've been wondering this for awhile.

Snow! I miss it... cuz I'm not liking this "supposed" spring weather... rain!

This got me cracking up though: The snow is up to my knees, and I assure you I'm not short!
I'd probably drown in that little snowfall of yours

You will definitely improve.
When I took photography as a course... well I was a total fail.

As for what camera to use, it doesn't matter. If you learn the techniques, you are pretty much good to go. (:

(I shouldn't be talking since I was still learning as well)
Good luck!

It rained here yesterday, and then Mother Nature slapped us by turning it into freezing rain.

Glad you thought that was funny! XD I'm a total fail in my photography class because I'm too uninspired to go out and take pictures of things that I deem boring. Like my house. I'm so behind on turning pictures in.

Thanks a lot for commenting.

We had this week where everybody wore sweaters and it was like 15'c.
The next week it snowed again. -_-
Even though I miss snow sometimes it could be a total let down when you think it's already spring.

As for your photography problems, why don't you try conceptual photography. You seem like the person to have ideas like that and be able to transform them into photographs.
And if you don't like that, look at photographs in dA with still lifes and things around the house. It's surprising how something so mundane looks quite good under the lens.
Basically, you can get ideas from others for now and maybe that will help you get started.

All the best!

Nuuuuu! I just want spring! SPRING.

Hmm. Conceptual photography. I'll have to look into that, since I like the sound of it. Thank you for your awesome advice! In this time of need, I think I WILL turn to dA! It's such an amazing resource.

And I'll start with your lovely work, first.

Haha.
I'm guessing it's not that far off.

Yay, most definitely you should!
And it is!

Aw, you're flattering me. Haha.
(:

The title and description put a lot of emphasis on the fact that you got lots of snow.

Whereas the picture, is using the sky as a major focal point.
It draws my eye away from the snow.

So my only critique is to pick one, sky or snow, and focus totally on that. If you wanted to focus more on the snow, put the camera lower to the ground and aim slightly parallel to the ground.

Again, this may be terrible advice, because I am not a photographer, it's just my opinion.

P.S. Sorry, I overuse commas.

Ah, thanks for the feedback.

Hmm, you brought up a good point that I hadn't consciously realized. I love it when people do that! I think that, after I took this picture, I was stuck on naming it, so I chose a name that wasn't directly related to the focus. I do, of course, want people to look at the sky in this picture, but it wasn't really my intention to make the title imply that I want them to look at the snow.

But the camera was just above the snow, looking up.

At least you use commas.

You should be doing project work!

Thanks again.

Project Work, what's project work?
Is that a Photoshop term? Oh you must be talking about Illustrator? I seem to have missed something. I'm staying home today, victory! Elongated Vacation

Super pretty sky!!! I totally get what you mean about the snow, I hate it x.x I mean, it didn't snow all winter for me here, but right when it hits Feburary we practically get blizzards

It helps a bit to have the right equipment... point and shoots aren't bad, as such, but D-SLRs are... well, you can't really compare the two. They exist on two completely different planes. =/

I like the wideness here and how it's pretty straight in terms of the horizon and angle. The tone is quite interesting and it lowers the harshness of things, a bit. I do feel there could be more saturation and contrast or a further oomph with things?

Lovely stuff, though!

SanguineEpitaph In reply to 3wyl [2011-02-27 16:33:36 +0000 UTC]

Right, I've never used a D-SLRs, but I assume that a lot of the amazing photos around here aren't done with point 'n shoots. The former has always interested me, but they're awfully expensive and I'm not really a photographer, so I guess I'll have to continue to wonder.

Thanks for your awesome feedback, as always. I actually held my camera just above the snow to get that angle, I wanted more sky than boring snow. I wasn't sure about contrast or anything, but I see what you mean. I just modified it a tiny bit and went on my way, but I'll keep it in mind.

Thanks!

Quite a few are, but most are D-SLRs, yes.

They are... lenses are more expensive by far, but I do get what you mean. They do say photography is an expensive hobby.

Awesome stuff.

I like snow~!!

Yeah, I think the camera you have definitely matters. Megapixels is a good indication of the clarity of the photo you can take, and higher optical zoom is always fun. Mine is a Canon something-or-other with 8 megapixels, and it takes mediocre to good pictures. However, Marta's family has a Canon camera as well, with a different design and 10 megapixels. You can put that camera in anyone's hands and BAM! Gorgeous photos. The clarity and resolution is amazing. >A<

Try playing around with different settings. It might be fun to try taking a landscape photo with, say, the portrait setting. (Portrait setting is one of my favorites. ) Maybe also play with angles? Good pictures are the ones with crisp detail and focus on the subject, so it's hard to capture that same quality with broad landscape shots that maybe aren't so clear. The eye is drawn to the crisp brightness, like the right side and the horizon of this particular photo. I do like the gradient from light to dark, though.

I've always wanted to mess with those "more professional" cameras with the attachable zoom lenses and such, but my dad won't let me at them. =A= My sister is the "photographer" of the family, since I'm too busy to go take pictures, but I think it runs in the family. My older half-sister (the one that doesn't exist >>) is actually a professional(?) photographer. owo So now that I've spontaneously combusted will all this hidden knowledge about photography...

...go check out Maddy's gallery: ~NightKindNever32297 She's got some pretty pictures. ^-^ And keep photographing stuff! TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES! Obnoxious amounts of pictures! Of everything!! (I have a hilarious closeup of my dog's nose while she's dozing off... XD) If you have a bunch to look through, you can immediately pick out ones that just look better. You'll get the hand of it.

Ohh, my camera seems to switch itself automatically to settings. I think there's a manual thing, but I'm usually satisfied with how it does on its own. Why would you ever portrait a landscape? XD

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

Thank you for all of that feedbackalicious goodness.

PSH. Hell if I know. XD The point is to mess around while you're still "amateur" to get the feel for things and maybe learn some awesome techniques. ^^

thats good, i think!
im ready for spring to!

I have a Nicon D60 with a regular lense and a telephoto lense.

here is my photo gallery, if u wanna look at the quality: [link]
and here is my best pic, in my opinion: [link]
your camera very much affects the quality of photos. high rez, better picture. also, the flash can really make a difference. dont use the flash for more natural light, and in my opinion it looks better a lot of the time.
hope that helps!
also, cameras wit ha big lense r better than, say, a digital camera

SanguineEpitaph In reply to Kodiackk8 [2011-02-27 05:20:44 +0000 UTC]

Oh, thank you for your opinion!
I have even noticed that the flash sometimes seems to affect the quality in natural daylight. I'm not sure why, it just doesn't look as good... I've always wanted a camera with a big lens, just to try out.

Kodiackk8 In reply to SanguineEpitaph [2011-02-27 14:52:48 +0000 UTC]

sure!
it lights up things in the foreground and makes things in the background fade away and darken. it just gives it a better look, in my opinion.
but there are cases when you do need the flash.
glad i could help!
