Description This was done in Illustrator (CS3) for a class awhile back. The hardest part? HIS SKIN!!! >_< My advice to y'all who use this program? Do NOT attempt to do skin (or hair) using Illustrator. It's ridiculously time-consuming. The only reason I did it that way was because the class parameters specified that everything had to be done using Illustrator >_<

Anyway, done kvetching. We were supposed to design labels for bottles, so I did one of my original characters, Kiji, on a bottle of medicine, because he's a Healer. The style was taken from Art Nouveau labels, like those of Alphonse Mucha.

For those who want to know what the symbolism in the label is about, I'll explain. The medicine (called 'Hedeska' ) is made from, among other things, the flower 'hualotu', which is also the 'national flower' for their people. That's what he's holding in his left hand. The hualoti also appear near the top of the frame, and their leaves and stems create its structure. The leaves and petals of the hualoti are even echoed in his clothing, and his hair.

Kiji's right hand is holding the necklace that all healers wear, especially when they're out in the field. It stores information, locations and comrades' stats, etc.

At the bottom, right and left, are small medicine bottles, their naturalistic decorative motifs typical of Kiji's native culture. They also indicate the balance between natural and synthetic remedies in the culture's healing.

*deep breath* Ok...I think I'm done here...O_O This is also on my portfolio page at JocelynCombe.

Boys?

BOYS?!!

Bwahahahahahahah! *coke*cough*expire*

*grins*

Remedy (Emily) is most definately a girl, all 5' 5" curvacious bodacious (with a side of extreme shyness) sweetheart that she is. She eventually has to learn about combat too, which is really hard considering the extreme abuse she suffered as a child- but she will rise above all that. She LOVES animals, and yeah she has the invisible "SUCKER" label on her foehead; animals and small children adore her.

And YES, if you like fanish stuff maybe, just MAYBE I might do a tip of the pencil to your adorable lad if you're ok with such things. Just to share and be silly-like.

He just looks so... substantial, he has so much life and character in his eyes and face. Rem is MY baby too, so hey, I understand. ^_^

O_O What's so funny about boys?

Well, if you want to, you're certainly welcome to it XD But you don't have to. O_O

Thank you for those comments about his expression and such. I really do appreciate it!

You have combined so many of my favourite things in this piece! Gorgeous healer lad, art nouveau, simple and elegant design... and kudos on doing this in Illustrator! Good grief! This says even MORE about not only your talents (which are formidable) but your determination to push the envelope.

This is exquisite!

Can my healer come and play with your healer? There just aren't enough fun healer characters in so many worlds! (a bad case of everyone wants to be a warrior, LOL)

Beautifully done sweetheart, I'm cheering for you!

*laughs* You like healers, eh? Nothing wrong with that! And Kiji mostly heals for the group because....when he fights...he gets very dangerous and scary O_O

Thank you for the kudos, too! It was hard, but clearly not impossible to at least do *something* XD I love Art Nouveau, so that part was easy enough. And, if you want the clean lines, you must use Illustrator ^__^

Ooh, you have a healer, too? Yay! Our boys can run around gathering flora and fauna and making friends of animals ^__^ Kiji can be a warrior, but chooses not to, unless he has to be (for the reasons stated above, among others XD)

Thank you again, so much! Encouragement is always welcome!

Thank you very much! I love my Kiji, I do! (And the simplicity of the clothing was mainly because I couldn't stand to do anything more complex XD)

I tried Illustrator and couldn't do SNOT with it. Vector is NOT my thing. Gimmee pixel programs anytime. Kudos and my deep respect to anyone who works with Vector or Illustrator for fun or professionally.

Vector...has its advantages, but doing human forms is NOT one of them >_< And I had to go to a class to learn how to use it, so I'm sure you could, too! Without a class, it can be kind of daunting

I thought vector was mathematics, ergo, me hate me some damn math. Thanks anyway. I'll stick with pixel art. Hell, half the time I can't handle THAT.

It's certainly more technical and mathematical, but it's intuitive as well.

But yeah, Photoshop is my best friend XD
