I distinctly recall telling someone it was unlikely I would ever draw anything related to Another Note: the Los Angeles BB Murder Cases. I suppose I lied, because here's my mental image of Quarter Queen. *rolls eyes*I confess I found the book disappointing...I got it because I was interested in the fact that it was supposedly from Mello's perspective, and I do like a good fanfic...I thought Mello would figure more prominently and that it might talk more about the House. Ah well, it was alright, though the names were silly. Quarter Queen was the one that made a lick of sense to me, though it sounded less like a given name and more like an arcade score name. Hence the picture.
qq and bb belong to Nisio Isin, DN belongs to Ohba and Obata.

My take on the book:
I agree that the names were quite silly, but I think those names might be translated from Japanese, cause take Kakashi for example, everybody knows Kakashi, He name translates into 'Scarecrow' Idk what his second name translates into, but i expect somthing.

i doubt it, because the focus is on their english spelling--the bb's and qq's and all that. i also find it difficult to believe that the japanese translation of "backyard bottomslash" is a normal name. scarecrow makes a heck of a lot more sense as a name than bottomslash. i know a lot of writers use names that mean things, but i don't think it was the case in AN. it seems more plausible to me that nisio simply went through an english dictionary and picked words that sounded good without really caring what they meant. :\

Hmmm, Yeah I agree with you, I just thought of that cause i was having a conversation about Lights second name, and Kakashi and the idea popped my head, You idea seems a lot more plausible. ^^

Very intresting take on this character. I haven't seen much fanart for her. (In fact this is the _only_ one I've seen. So kudos to you. ^^)
Yes! Another person who believes that she'd be a over obsessed arcade player. I love the colors. very psycodelic and weird. Just like a video game. XD
BB in the background really gives off an errie creepy feel. O_O
And I just have to give my two cents about the novel. I thought it was really good, but the names kinda bugged me as well.

I did like the book though. But I learned long ago to compartmentalize (like see it as something completely standalone) and not to expect anything.

That really makes sense! I never thought about her name like that. Actually, the names in the book really bugged me too. I'm guessing Nisioisin is Japanese, or from another country, and picked random English words for names. I did enjoy the plot twists, but I found a lot of the reasoning really farfetched, like the whole qq BB thing. I'd say the best part of the book was Mello's intro, I think he/she really nailed his personality. Anyway, I love your take on Quarter Queen, especially her outfit! It's so bright and fluffy. XD

Yes, you're probably right. That drives me nuts...going both ways, really. If you're going to use a foreign language in your work it's not going to kill you to do a little research and have it make sense in that language too, whether it's Japanese to English or vice versa.

Actually, I'm not the first, hehe! I searched around to see if anyone else had pictures of BB's victims out of curiosity, and I did find this one [link] by ~Luzifersangel. Our interpretations were a little different XD but that's what fanart is all about, yeah?

I had a good idea for Backyard Bottomslash until just now between this line and the last of writing this reply when I checked the book and realized she's a girl, which kind of makes my idea not work as well.
