No it isn't. Look at mako's shirt and back at Korra's hair. Does the color seem bright to you. If it was the sun, it the hair would be a brighter black but it isn't.

Mako's jacket isn't black, it's more of a grey. Korra's hair is brown, Mako's hair is black, and is darker than Mako's jacket without the shadeing.

I didn't say mako's jacket was black, the shade of the tree confused me on korra's true hair color. (embarrasing) and you're still not seeing it. Korra's hair below her left hair tie isn't colored right. It's not the sun shining through the tree because the color is the same as korra's skin in the shade.
