I can't help but think that's how she's feeling, even though I love snow and I had a lot of fun painting the snow glitter here.I've been doing a lot of practice on landscape design among other things. I'm not yet able to compose and draw from the mind the kind of landscapes I'd like to (the layout of the landscape here is referenced from a photo), but I'm getting a bit closer.

how long does it normally take your oil paints to dry? I did some oils and they took Forever!

Less than a week, usually 4-5 days is enough to touch or scan them. But it depends a lot on the technique you use. I mix paints off the tube with no additional oil, don't use impasto (though it's something I'd like to try, I love paintings with strong texture), and I don't work with many layers of paint. Usually I only have an imprimatura layer (which in this case was orange ochre, the color you see on the mountain peak), then the main color layer on top of that, an then some corrections or a thin glaze of color in some spots. There are also alkydic oil paints which dry even faster but I haven't tried them yet.

I think with my painting I mixed too much oil into the paints. I loved how it blended very easily but It took about a month to dry enoughΒ so I could touch it without getting covered in paint. (part of that might be because of the humidity levels where I live) It was my first time painting with both oil paint and canvas so I definitely have room to improve!

It is perfectly legitimate to use photos as a reference, many , many artists do, I think this work is excellent .

Oh I know, it's just that photos often don't have an optimal composition for the scene, in this case for instance I suspect the scenery would feel less cluttered if I omitted the low-reaching clouds over the trees. Thank you!

Hmmm , yes I think you are right I had a look again. And if you don't mind me saying, perhaps in the future if you toned down just a little the colours in the background, this would increase the feeling of distance.Β
