Mind if I ask which version of openCanvas you have?
I still use 1.1, because it's the only free version ~.~ T_T

Hi! i just want to try out this opencavas, do you know the shortcut key for opencanvas especially radius or resizing the brush by pressing the shortcut key?

Sorry for the late reply.
I don't know. Usually I have a handful of brushes that I use and then I just switch back and forth depending on what I'm doing at that moment.

wont do well on a mouse eh? wat bout on a mouse pad!! im dommed wit tis laptop!!!

Scarabus In reply to si-gh [2006-12-11 11:35:24 +0000 UTC]
wow. your spelling..
Anyways. Um, no. Mice won't do because what you need is something pressure sensitive, like a wacom tablet. I guess you meant the finger-touchy-thing that's at the bottom of your laptop. It might sense pressure, but mouse-clicks are still registered by the buttons above it.
Honestly, I wouldn't even attempt to do ANY art using one of those XD
..but even if you're doomed with a laptop, you can still buy a wacom and plug it in.

Great tutorial! I honestly know nothing about CGing and i've tryed to learn, but failed, and not owning photoshop is kind of a downfall since EVERYTHING is always about photoshop, Thanks for making this! the only thing that confused me was: how can you color over the lineart without it dissapearing? I know it has something to do with layers but what is it? *is layer illiterate*

Scarabus In reply to Mousy94 [2006-07-26 09:49:46 +0000 UTC]
I rarely use photoshop anymore for my art. I use openCanvas by portalgraphics. It's not as expencive as photoshop and it's really powerful
if you own a tablet.
You're right about using layers to color without making the lineart disappear. You can draw stuff in separate layers and each layer can have a different color operation. Like.. if you scan a penned image, you can put that in a layer and set it's operator to "Multiply". This means that everything white will turn transparent, dark colors (the black in the lineart) will stay opaque. Then you create another layer underneath it and you can just color away.

Oh really? That's great. I wrote it pretty quickly.. like 1 o clock in the morning, so I was a bit afraid that it wouldn't make much sence.

hmm... Now that I really sit and look at it, I would be very interested in a more detailed second tutorial specifically for hair, that's always been a tough spot for me, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on it... You could probably combine it with detailing the clothes and stuff...
