Hi I'm writing a story on Wattpad, and I was wondering if I could use this picture. I'd give you credit, of course.

Thank you so much!
I'm glad I could help. I'd love to read up on your work when I get the chance.
P.S.
Interesting, since I used my own face to create this piece. People are always asking if it's a self portrait when it so clearly isn't!

I just use Adobe Photoshop and a Wacom Tablet, which is one of those tablets that transfers the information directly into the computer as you draw, but really you can use any program. If you really have a good hand, you can even use good ol' pen and paper.
The process is the same no matter what you use:
First, I took a picture of myself in the pose I wanted. You can use a webcam if it has a camera feature, or you can ask someone to take a picture of you. I needed the picture because I wanted to get the pose right. Then I made a sketch of my face by using the photo as a reference. It was here that I started to change the features. I made my brown eyes green and made them bigger, and I shrinked the my nose a little, along with other small changes.
I guess I didn't do a very good job at changing her features though, because I guess her bone structure was still such that it still sort of looked like me.
Either way, using references is you absolute best friend. It really helps with keeping realistic proportions and keeping the perspective correct. When I was younger, I practiced by tracing magazine people with thin paper, but eventually I got the hang of it.
If you need any help with anything, I can even make you a few tutorials. I had a friend on here that wanted to learn how to draw this Computer Game characters, so I helped her out by making her a personalized tutorial. I'm not the best artist on the planet, but I love to help.

I love the softness to the face, but the ear looks as though the paintstrokes were not blended out on the program, which makes it look a little disconnected from her face. I really love the feather's detail and its stark contrast to the clothing.

There's something very catchy - and touching - about the thoughtful observance in her eyes. I see a hint of something I can't entirely define; sadness? Slight contempt? Both? It's just a tiny little bit, but it's an elegantly caught mysterious expression.
An elf, yes - because of the ear. But I see more human in the face, and that' because of the eyebrows. This is provided that we talk about classic fantasy settings and archetypes, and ofc. the creator of an elf decides what she looks like, but I'd imagine the eyebrows slightly more pointed (only I'm afraid it would ruin the beautiful expression).

Thank you so much. I'm glad you caught the contempt. The drawing has a lot of history behind it. I wanted her to be a bit of a representative of the relationship between elves and humans. I agree about the eyebrows as well. I could have made them a bit more pointed. It is a characteristics I usually give elves, although as you said it would have made it more difficult to create the expression. I need to practice a little more so to really get the look I'm looking for. I do blame the overall human appearance eon the fact that I used my own face as a reference. I do plan to improve once I get my hand son my wacom tablet again.
Thank you so much for your insightful feedback.

For your first time using a reference you did very well. Your face shape was perfect for bringing out that elfin look in your character. One thing to work on in this picture would be her ear. It's lines and shape don't match the rest of the picture. However, your choices of earthly colors help bring out her face. Also, the details in the hair and cut off feather are subtle, yet powerful contrasts to her more modern clothing. It illustrates the fact that you had her dress up to go into the city even though she's wild.

Yes, I must get that in my mind: references are your friend...references are your friend...
Thank you for the advice. I always tended to do the opposite but I'll do what you suggest instead. ^^

Using your face was a great idea, because it makes the drawing come to life.
