Forgot to ask....what kind of glue do you use in the boot construction.....my husband has a can of clear contact cement....that I could use and apply it with toothpicks....is the glue too strong?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

scargeear In reply to bijoushen [2014-05-30 13:22:25 +0000 UTC]

Is that contact cement glue elastic? If not please search for some Polyurethane based glue that is good for genuine leather. I use "Moment Crystal" glue from Henkel but it's not a worldwide brand so you should search for a similar glue. Transparent glue is the best.

Thank you for your generosity in sharing your patterns.  In particular, I am going to try and make 2 pr. of the SD BJD Soom Supergem Steel boots for both my bjds...a 16" minifee (pattern scaled to 60%) and my 18" msd 5star Ji (scaled to 75%)  I sure hope I can do it!!
Thanks again.   Of course, if it works out and I show my finished boots on a doll site, I will certainly credit you and your pattern!

I've referenced this pattern for use in making clothes for a G-Man plushie; I hope that's OK?
The pattern for it can be found here: katie-may-sews-stuff.deviantar…

Also, do you have any tips on how to sew the pieces together? I can't see the seams on your picture of the finished boot, and I'm having trouble getting all the pieces to fit when I try sewing them together like I would a plushie.

scargeear In reply to Katie-May-sews-stuff [2014-05-28 17:43:44 +0000 UTC]

Well, the best way is to look at the real boots, to learn how they are sewn together, and to do the same. I usually sew genuine leather by hand, because mistakes leave excess holes. You even may glue the pieces first, and then to sew, I also use this method.

Katie-May-sews-stuff In reply to scargeear [2014-05-29 20:08:57 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but I don't have an example of the real boots (aside from your sample picture), so I don't really know what they're supposed to look like. I'm also not quite sure where the heel and toe parts of the upper are supposed to attach to the sole, and I don't want it to be off-center.

These are the things which are hard to explain for me in English. Try "steel boots" in Google and look at the photos.

Also, my tutorials and patterns are intended for people who already have basic understanding on how to sew the pieces of the clothes together, I never had a goal to explain every tiny step a person should take to make the boots, sorry.

Ah, thanks; the pictures really help! Most plushie patterns mark where pieces line up. I should be able to get it now, though.

ShelandryStudio [2013-12-22 23:27:38 +0000 UTC]

do you happen to know what setting to use to print this at the right scale to cut out?

I know 8x10 would be way to big, I am making for a 60 cm doll

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

scargeear In reply to ShelandryStudio [2013-12-23 06:51:57 +0000 UTC]

As my Supergem is 65 cm high I suggest 9/10 scale is OK. But you also need to check the measurements of your doll comparing to my doll (there are measurements in the same folder as patterns).

It looks like an excellent pattern, I might try it for my boy. But...isn't there a pattern part missing...? Shouldn't there be a...uh...flap-thingy behind the shoe laces...?

scargeear In reply to daiin [2013-06-14 17:13:19 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! Yes, I forgot to add the "tongue". My advice is to make the boots and then to determine width and height of the tongues. If I remember correctly the width is about 12 mm.

I suppose yes, if properly scaled and made out of a thin leather.
