Description Lefos plants are medium sized ground plants that grow in semi arid plains and forests and dry forest in soft soils.  Lefos typically have a 7 year life span.  They are a fleshy, juicy plant that grows in a pronged disc shape vertically from a stiff woody stem, with tattered, lightly colored leaves where the stem meets the bulk of the plant.  During dry times, Lefos become flat as they expend their water stores, while in humid times, they soak up as much water as possible and become grossly engorged.

Lefos of age and slightly distressed by drought will begin to flower.  As the flower bud grows the stem is weakened and the body bends over to allow the petals and reproductive extensions of the plant to be fully exposed to winds and visible to passing animals that could encourage pollination.  After pollination, the plant responds to rain and begins growing a large seed pod.  When water reserves run out once more the plant begins to die, and the seed pod begins to split and shrivel into a sort of fiber ball that becomes very light in weight.  It would be picked up by the wind and rolled across the terrain, dropping seeds as it rolls to spread more plants.  The seeds are small and disc shaped, often forming in a conjoined ball that splits as the pod dries.  When dropped, they tend to germinate at the next rain if not eaten by animals.

Lefos are mostly only preyed upon by burrowing worms/larvae which bore into the body during humid times.  Healthy plants are unharmed by minor infestation and recover once the insects move on.  Occasionally a large herbivore might eat them, but they do not seem to be favorable food sources for most animals.  The seeds are often picked up by smaller animals, often passing through the digestive system whole to be deposited in various other places.

In regards to orekroark usage: While the hard flesh of Lefos tends to be unpalatable unless processed with salt, the jelly that builds up in a water freshened plant is very useful as a nutritional fluid source, medicinal salve and preservative for other foods.  When mixed with the pollen of a flowering Lefos and a certain bark, the jelly mixture acts as a mild narcotic.  The pollen and nectar of the plant is otherwise vile tasting although sweet smelling, but has no real affects on its own.  The seeds are a mildly bitter/sour and spicy food which are good for flavoring or crushing into water to make pastes and drinks, but are otherwise not eaten in large amounts.
