Description Another illustration painting. It was a lot of fun but I'm not so confident about the tree in the background. Any advice?

Hey, I found this on ProjectComment, but I'm going to watch you now since I seem to be constantly commenting on your works already (lol). I'm not sure which of the trees you were worried about but it might be that you already edited it before I saw this. The aerial perspective/mist effect is beautifully executed, which helps a lot.

This picture has a lot of good things going on and there's a high level of detail, but at the same time, most of the plants seem very isolated. It might be because the ground itself looks too smooth. When it's close to the viewer, some rough shadows should be visible, mainly in the bottom right corner and the area near the envelope. You don't have to put them everywhere, just some strategically placed deep shadows and sharp highlights to create the illusion of moss or low vegetation. In the distance, it's easier to get away with the lack of surface texture because details blend together. The rock on the right could also benefit from some dark cracks. Also, don't be afraid to erase gaps into the lower parts of shoots sticking out of the ground. The viewer will interpret it as blades of grass hiding some of the stems from sight.

The water looks eerily still, which makes it look like a sheet of metal rather than actual water. Introducing more ripples near the shoreline and objects sticking out of the water would make it look more realistic. Also having underwater things such as rocks show through in some parts would help. Parts of the reflections are really attractive, in the "shoot blood from your nose like an anime boy seeing his crush" kind of level, but there's no way it could be that completely placid and still be considered natural. In a way, it conveys an atmosphere of magic and waiting, but I'm not sure if you were going for that.

The perspective doesn't completely work, making it look like the water is rising towards the back rather than being level. If the water is flowing downhill, it would cause more movement.

My favorite parts are that cluster of tree reflections on the right side of the character, the reflection of the biggest tree and the color palette as a whole.

Thank you so much for commenting on my work Again! Haha yes you commented a lot on my pieces recently, true .

Good advice with the ground. I was a bit lazy to render every detail and just hoped it would be enough as it is .

I know the water is quite still, actually too still for a river but I just love the effect complete stillness of water has on the painting. But you are right it's not so realistic .

Oh no :-/  that's not good. It's hard

What's in that envelope? Why isn't she reading what's inside?!

It's an important letter for the mayor of the village . I think she doesn't see it

Honestly when I saw the thumbnail I almost thought this was a photo. The colors are so nice and evenly balanced that it looks beyond natural.

As said the color choices are spot on. The general palette is calm and composed giving the image a serene atmosphere and suits well with the topic too. Nice touches
of brown and orange give a lovely contrast and the details on the plants on the ground look great! The trees look a bit pale to me - it's not the lack of leaves, but rather lack of smaller and thinner branches
- which would make the trees look more real. It's nothing too disturbing but adding some here and there would give a nice effect.

I supposed the tree with orangeish leaves was a troublesome one? To me it doesn't pop out too different from the rest, a tiny bit too dark maybe, but the tree itself is fine. I'd say only the simplicity of other trees that makes this one
look a bit different. Maybe add a little more leaves on the other trees too to make the bigger one better blend in.

The only things I'd point out are the furthest background and the character. The furthest background fades away rather abruptly - I mean you can see the river to quite far, but no that much of the rest of the forest around it
which kinda makes it look like the river is right next to an edge - blurring the river end would help with this. Also, the character somehow looks different from the scenery - the tone of her hair and skin is somewhat cold compared to the surroundings, causing that she doesn't blend in quite perfectly. Warming up her tones would do the trick.

The water is probably my favorite part. Shading water is always tricky but you've chosen just the right colors and the reflections look great too! Nicely blurred and perfectly placed.
The water looks still and calm. A little more ripples might be nice - especially around the girl.

In general this is a Lovely painting! Such a pleasure to look at and so skillfully painted. The textures look nice and balances, there's enough details and again the colors are just amazing!
