"The U.S.S. Discovery was rumoured to be a top secrete prototype starship, used as a test bed for some of the federations most cutting edge technology. A popular theory about the ship is that it possessed a radical new form of FTL drive system, while another suggests the ship may have belonged to the mythical Section 31.However, since no official records of the ship have ever been found and only the rumours and theories surrounding the ship exist, it is regarded as having never existed at all."

If Star Trek Discovery took place in the Abrams Universe, I feel that Star Trek fans would be more tolerant of it.

Sadly, I'd be inclined to agree with them. but then again, I feel it's still too early to truly judge it. baring in mind that TNG, Voy and DS9 all took a couple of seasons to really find there feet.
