This is sick, the texture is reminiscent of a Battlestar.
you serious? no plugins? i think they could make your life quite a bit easier.

Wow, thanks! That's quite a compliment. Dunno why I've never tried any plugins, I guess I just fins SU to be enough for my level of modelling, mind you I'd love to get a proper uv mapping feature. You ever tried that?

i've heard of UV mapping for sketchup but i'm pretty sure any decent plugins aren't free. Check out Sketchucation if you already haven't. Plugins are the only reason i still use sketchup tho so it surprises me quite a bit that you dont use them.

anyways some of the plugins that i recommend if you do try them out are

-Fredo tools, he has a whole bundle of free excellent plugins
-Twilight renderer
-BZ toolbar
-Joint push pull (i think this is part of fredo but i'm not sure)

you can get all of these on the sketchucation forums, there's some pretty neat tutorials and it's where all the crazy SU professionals hang out.

Thanks man! I've checked out sketchucation and I found it to be a really cumbersome website. Couldn't make heads or tails of it really. I haven't been able to figure out how to join any groups or anything. DA in comparison is so much user friendly and with peeps like yourself there's always someone there to answer my questions.

In my opinion it's worth it, forums are probably one of the more complicated websites to navigate tho, you're right.

I suppose you're right. I have made a password and such, but it stopped there. May give it another shot soon though. probably lots of help to get with regards to my webshop plans and such. Thanks!

I think your ships would kick my ships !@#$*!@%&
Tell me what you think?
(4views) Smaller armored scout ship. Tried to add smaller maneuvering engines all over the ship. Hidden Rail superweapon underneath. Heavily starwars influence

Thanks! Though I think your ship would give mine a run for it's money. I like the big nasty railgun

Now the only difficulty is to bring this ship into Blender and bring it to life with some proper Special-Effects
Have you UV-Unwrapped the Model and created a texture for it, or did you do the texture-details entirely in sketchup with some extra-lines and the filling-tool?

Just sketch up paint bucket, but I've projected them, so they follow the shape of the model a bit better. Blender would be cool..

Blender has a VERY NICE feature, called "smart UV Project". It projects the Model according to an angle that is set in the properties-window that pops up when you call this feature.

I am heavily using this tool to UV-Unwrap my model of a Destroyer, which btw. has one of you turret-design from the google 3D-Warehouse integrated.

Because I have VUE 8 Complete, I export the model via the Vue-Export-Plugin into a .vob-file and with VUE 8 I export the model as a .obj-file. That way i retain the groups from SketchUp and can edit them separately in Blender.
To get this method working properly, it is necessary however to eliminate all single-sided faces, which means that every face of the model in Sketchup must have the same color/texture on both sides.

Aha.. Blender.. is it possible to get an SU file to work in it without VUE? I'd love to try it at some point because everyone seems to think it's so great.

I think, it is. There are Scripts to convert Kerky-Files into .obj-Files, which can be imported into Blender.
I haven't tried this yet, but I will do it now, as I have nothing to do at the moment

Sweet, can you please let me know how it works out?

Btw. I hope, there is no problem with me using your turret-designs.

Nope! no problem at all as long as you mention it in the text, I'm kind of flattered really. The warehouse stuff is there for all to use in any way they see fit.
I'm in the (loong and arduous)process of making my very own webshop with just this thing in mind, so knock yourself out, he he.
Thank you for using and liking my models!
