The conformation of the horse was taken from a picture in the DH catologue in the bridle section, the image isnt more then 1X1"
It's pretty bad, lol!

Lot's and lots of practice!
I used to sit down and draw just manes, all sorts of shapes, movements, cuts, lengths ect. PRactice with different hardness of pencil too, i used 3 for this horses mane

Wow, you are very talented at drawing horses. This looks absolutely realistic, down to the hairs. The bit is very well done, and the mouth looks really good.

i love the horses eye, and it's really cool that you put it in profile view, lol. once again i love your shading. you do a very good job with your drawings. second question, do you take a picture of a horse, and draw from that.....do you look at a horse right in front of you and draw.........do you pull it from imaginaion......memory? either way, keep it up, because it's working for you

I do both.
This one in particular was a slight mix. I try to practice more free hand work, However i use referances more then anything, and combine several horses in one, sometimes.
