interesting. Always felt this guy was underutilized after the late Mark Gruenwald stopped writing for Cap.

Felt like they had tried to make an Anarchist version of someone like Red Skull. Now there's been like, what? Three versions of this character?

Four is more like it, but yes.

Personally speaking, I think that Marvel is wasting a lot of potential with this character.
Flag Smasher works better as an anti hero, as a controversial figure more than a fully malevolent one. He should have supporters and detractors in the general population.

He is a character that should show us the defects on our system of ideals, a character that destroys those systems because they are flawed BUT also does not show alternatives to their reconstruction and/or fixing said flaws.

and/or is oblivious that some of his supporters uses this platform to just cause destruction and riot... creating more misery and whatnot.

That would work but only if characters like Captain America ALSO is oblivious that some of his supporters use a "support the government and the ideals of the USA" platform to cause hatred and racism to spread, also creating misery, violence and a social divide.

In other words, never showing something as 100% "good" or 100% "evil", but as a grey area in which the reader, at the end, is the one making the final decicion, and each reader reaching a different conclusion.

I think he could work as a metaphor for what happens when libertarianism is dialed up to 100. Sure, you get freedom, but what about protection? Security? Peace of mind? He'd be a great shade for the cap adversary pallette, with U.S. Agent being a stark contrast.
