"You are quite the looker, Mrs. Carter. I've seen gorgeous women in my time, but you take the cake." Sara Phillips said this solemnly, but gave a quick wink at the word "cake."
"Really?" Adeline asked.
"Oh yes. And such a style for fashion, too. I saw you arrive in that white jacket and purple scarf. Very eye catching."
"Well, thank you."
"I'm just impressed. Easily the best dressed here. Not much different from what I'd have done, except for let my hair down."
Adeline smiled.
"What? Just a small tip," she said demurely.
"You're good. I can see how my daughter and Peggy Autumn have a hard time nailing you down. I'm not fooled though. Now if you'll excuse me. I have someone I need to talk to." Adeline glanced pointedly at her watch.
"That's just it, Mrs. Carter. I can't let you talk to him."
Adeline frowned, then looked around for her girls. "Why are you really here?"
"I'm afraid that's on a need to know basis. But if you'll just hold still..."
