Cassie was well along into her maiden pregnancy. The foal due in almost two months but she already looked ready to burst. She had been moved to the broodmare herd and away from the young horses in training. She was finding the change rather boring and missed tearing around the paddock with company. The older mares were far more sedate and seemed content with grazing and sleeping in the winger sunshine.
It was an exciting day when the humans were doing something in one end of her paddock. She was always curious what the people were doing. Not really excited enough to want to get involved with them a lot, she had gotten very bored with them when they decided to start climbing all over her, but they were strange things and often brought delicious treats or scratched those hard to itch places. She ambled over, moving slower than she would have usually, to examine what they were up to today. She knew the humans well, and one in particular seemed very diligent in scratching her, so she aimed towards where he sat. Her ears pricked as she caught sight of the apple oh so conveniently placed beside him. It was as if he had placed it there for her and she happily stepped up behind him and ever so gently lipped at it before biting down with satisfaction.
Soma heard the crunch and knew instantly what had happened. He spun, making the mare start back a step before standing and staring at him as she slobbered away at the apple half. He looked annoyed for a moment before bursting out in a raucous laugh and doubling over, almost falling off the hay bale. Cassie flicked her ears at him for a moment as she chewed. Humans were strange. Then the boy leant down to pick up the remaining half and offered it to her. She flicked her tail and with all the grace and elegance of a queen accepting a gift she happily took the remaining fruit and snorted slobber and snot all over him as he doubled over once again.
