When Soma had expressed interest in learning how to produce a young horse, Neaghe had been cautious. The kid was good with the animals, but a bit more unpredictable than she would personally have liked. But Ryan and Cavan had talked her around. He had been a very good student despite his goofy personality and they were confident that with them working on their own youngsters that they could oversee and help him work through all the stages together. "It would be a good experience for him in patience and consistency" her brother had said, and he had been right.

The youngster they had put him in charge of was bright and sassy and full of her own chaos. In some ways the pair were well matched in that regard, and Soma spent a lot of time laughing at the fillies antics. But she was also strong willed and a little avoidant of work, which had been the biggest hurdle for the pairing. Ryan and Cavan had encouraged the teen to try and keep the training fun and use his own personality to keep things exciting while still remaining focused on what he was trying to teach her.

There were ups and downs. The filly was teaching him nearly as much, and while some days it seemed Soma had managed to teach her something and progress their training, other days it was Nhiki that dictated the terms of their work. On the hardest times he always had his own teachers there to help him, as there were things that they needed the mare to learn to be a safe and reliable horse to handle. But mostly they tried to let Soma be the one that did the work.

It was exhausting and frustrating and so rewarding. Soma spent more time at the stables than ever before, doing his normal riding lessons and weekend work, and now spending his free time from school and studying with the filly as well. But the effort paid off. Their partnership was developing well. Nhiki had finally clicked for Soma and they had far more good days than they had struggles.

When the first official show came around Soma was excited and nervous. He knew it was not a riding show, nor was it particularly serious or important in the mares career. But it would be a real test of the work he had been doing and how well she would handle the show environment. He had spent extra time desensitising her to as many weird things as he possibly could, taking inspiration from the stash of Adaptability trial objects he had gotten to play with on numerous occasions. So he felt as prepared as he possibly could be as they all made the trip north with the horses to participate.

Cavan would also be entering the Agility class, but Soma knew that he would be on his own for this period of time. No one would be there to step in or help if he messed up. He was just hoping he could help Nhiki do well and prove that everyone's trust in him was worth it. And maybe even have a little fun while doing so.
