Description
I still hope i can get a couple more entries done for this event, but first up was Neaghe and Iceman who are making their debut together.
-----
Neaghe had not been in a proper competition arena for years now. Not since Maggie had retired. She had been looking for her next grand prix horse but nothing had clicked. None of their home-bred's had been quite right either as they developed and she had found herself stuck. Then she had Siobhan. After so many years of trying, it felt right that she just extend her competition break and enjoy the pregnancy as much as she could. It was enough work just running the stud while pregnant without adding competitions to the mix. But she had missed the buzz that came with competing.
Once she had felt like life was settling down after the birth, she had started tentatively looking again for a horse that was a good match. Shay and Bella were good to get her back into training. Shay was limited to lighter work due to an old injury, and as much as Bella was capable for higher levels, Neaghe had never really clicked with the mare the same way Vonnie had. Tony had potential, but he was also showing great signs as an eventer and she had no interest in that insanity. Kit and Tem were too young for what she wanted, and for a while she had found herself rather envious of her brother. His stallion Vitz had led her to try breeding her own Admiralskaya, and while she had hopes that Gus would be the partner she dreamed of, he was just a baby and she needed something more mature to work on bringing up the levels.
So she had looked further afield.
She had looked at several Australian Warmbloods in her search. Not only did she want a horse that was a good partner for her, but she took her role in building the breed seriously. If she could find a horse that could be used in the KhanCohban breeding program as well as compete, or even just be a breed ambassador if she found a suitable gelding. It all lingered in her mind as she tried out horse after horse.
Then Iceman crossed her path. He was young enough that she could produce him the rest of the way, but old enough that he had a decent level of training and competition already and she could just crack straight on with him. He was not an AusWB, but he could be developed as bloodstock, and that alone was also of great potential. None of that would have mattered if they didnt click in the saddle, but thankfully the stallion was just the right level of sharp but also steady. And he had that charisma that made him impossible to ignore.
She had put an offer on him before she even got out of the saddle.
Then it had been training, endless fitness for her and developing as a team for both of them. He had the right buttons for PSG and Neaghe knew she was capable of it, but just needed to dust off those cobwebs and get herself back in form to match him. It had been tiring but oh so rewarding to be back working towards a goal.
They had done some lower level shows together to get their toes in the water, but nothing recognised and nothing international. It had been almost a crazy thought to travel this far to compete at an international event together. But the chance to combine the show with a long delayed visit home was too tempting to resist.
So they had all packed and headed off for a vacation with a side of horse show. Neaghe was the only one that really enjoyed the vent once hey had arrived. the cold weather broke into an endless mist a few riders before her turn, sending her parents, John and the baby running for cover and warmth. Iceman had travelled well, but the lack of spectators had meant he was feeling slightly lazier than usual. But Neaghe beamed the whole ride.
