I found it interesting that you mentioned his swords. I've actually been itching to return to this project and fix them, particularly the lower, (his) left handed one. It's positioning is a bit too "flat" for me. I would like to redesign the blade to an authentic FFVII weapon, and then change the angle. As soon as time allows!

whoa nice concept.. i like how you took Cloud, a very cartoonie character, and brought him down to earth ... brought him to life so to speak [i am a final fantasy freak... :S]

This is just incredible. I love the way you shade your work. Sketch in a whole is really great. Hair, and face are incredible. Clothes are also incredible. Muscle tones are great. The build is great. Kinda reminds me of Frank Zane. Frank Zane is pretty much the smallest bodybuilder, who has won Mr. Olympia. Frank had a really impressive build. Was just perfect. Great Sketch!

Hey, thanks for the comments. I used a photo ref. to start the face, for lighting and whatnot (actually lighting on the face is where the lighting was decided), but altered the guys features to better suit the feel of the character. Hair i used some quick ref. from a magazine i had laying there..just to get various clumps n' strands down, then just went to town. Hair is actually pretty fun once you get the main shape down and blocked in.
The rest i pulled from the original shot of cloud from the hint guide (it was about the most used shot of him in a solo stance) and went from there on my own. I like, wanted to bulk him up a bit..make it look like he'd really been using the blades a bit, but keep him from looking bodybuilder..still smaller framed, etc.

Sean.. you are the master, you transfered the animated video game character into a realistic individual, I love this, its nice how it all looks on a mature cloud, yet stays the same, such as the hair, clothes, sword. Shading on the veins is great, nice anatomy on the tricep. Amazing shiiittee!! You rule!
