Short Story
The small pack had wandered for quite a while now. It currently consisted of three Tokotas. The first one was Sou, a mostly white Toki, that had back spots all over his fur and whose large ears and tail made it easily recognizable. The second one was a Dire named Roki, who had brown coloured fur, that was mixed with lilac all over his body. And the last one was Boon, a black Toki and oldest of the three. He was the leader of the pack and despite Roki obviously being stronger than him, the young Dire respected Boons experience. He had lead them through the treacherous Tartok Mountains, who were raising in the sky around them, blocking the view.
The winter had been harsh and cold and prey was scarce, to the pack had started wandering in an attempt to find prey. So far they hadn't been successful and the hunger got worse with each day. It was close to sun rise and one could already see how the sky began to lighten. As the small pack climbed up another hill their eyes fell upon a small her of musk ox. The large herbivores were slowly wandering around, removing the snow with their large hooves to find dried grass underneath.
The three Tokotas stopped as their hunger grew a bit more. Musk ox would give them enough to eat for a few days. But they were dangerous prey and could easily injure or even kill a Tokota. And every injury right now may as well mean death, too. "What should we do?" the small white Toki named Sou asked. "I'm so hungry, but those are huge. Do you think we could take one down?" he looked at the packs leader. Boon watched the musk ox herd thoughtful. If they didn't find anything to eat soon, they would grow weaker and hunting would become even harder. Although hungry they were not weakened yet. So if they were to go for dangerous prey now was the time. However, they were only two Tokis and a Dire and Boon was well aware that his and Sous size gave them a disadvantage here.
"If we are going to do this, we have to be extremely careful. You have to do what I say. No running off and trying things n your own." Boon looked at Roki. "I know you are well capable of hunting on your own, but for this we have to work together." Roki looked down. he was known to run off and do things on his own, but he never meant harm with it. Sometimes he just didn't think things trough. "For now let's follow and observe them for a while. Maybe we find one that is weaker or even sick. But we have to stay against the wind." Boon ordered. The three Tokotas settled down behind a small hill, allowing them to view the herd while giving them a bit of cover.
The herd had not much individuals, but all were full grown. Few had impressive horns and the three Tokotas didn't want to imagine what those could do.
