Twilight is the bane of all women with a shred of self-respect.
Not to mention people who can actually read.

Anyway, The only way I can watch Twilight is if I watch it with the rifftrax audio in the background.
The running scene with them humming benny hill in the background gets me every time.

Yeah, if I go into a "literature" section of the bookstore, I find chick lit and some token Twain and Dickens. "Chick lit" is not "literature"; it's insecurity passed off as empowerment and barfed up onto paper.

Well, I don't find the initial Mary Sue so annoying-- many great characters could be seen as Mary Sues. But the thing it, it's how the world that's written *treats* that character that matters.
It doesn't even have to treat her badly to redeem her. The thing is, some stuff has to not care about the character. In Chick Lit, the main character is the center of the universe- all the world and good and bad things that happen revolve around her. Nothing ever just happens because it works out that way, or because somebody else was important in the event. It's all about the central character...

Yeah, that's the main Mary Sue argument. The whole universe revolves around the main character and you want to KICK HER ASS when she cries and whines about STUPID THINGS.

The thing is that most Mary Sue stories sort of have the right idea-- the character is acted upon by the world, and that sets motives and things. But they don't quite get it right.
I hate to sound so elitist like this, but sometimes you have just got to say no.
