Description Not an ace aircraft, but I just had to post this model.  This one was done as a collaboration between my dad and his best friend, Bary Poletto.  The B-60 was Convair's entry in the contest to select the successor to the B-36 Peacemaker.  Essentially, the B-60 used the fuselage and tail structure of the B-36 with a new wing and podded jet engines.  In the end, of course, it lost out to Boeing's B-52 (which was faster and could carry more bombs), and the rest is history.  There were only two B-60s made, and both were scrapped.

Dad and Bary worked off of the colossal 1/72 scale Monogram B-36 and B-52 kits to build a "what-if," as if the B-60 had gone into service.  They used a B-36 fuselage, B-52 wings, tail and engines, and a lot of putty to create what might have been.  The wingspan on this beast of a model is about three feet wide.  It's slightly inaccurate--the real YB-60 prototypes had the same curved tail as the B-36, and the wing was set further forward--but considering the work it took to do this massive conversion, I think we can let it go.

Dad and Bary were some of the finest model builders in the world, in my biased opinion.  They didn't always agree and sadly, didn't part ways as friends.  But when they worked together, they made some damned beautiful things.  Strangely enough, they died within nine months of each other, in 2013.

I wouldn't know how accurate or inaccurate it is, but from what I'm seeing, it's a very awesome looking and well detailed model, only, was it a WIP or are the flaps and ailerons supposed to be green??

Sad to hear about your dad and his friend.

They're supposed to be green--I think.  The USAF was painting a lot of interior spaces in chromate, so that's what they went with here.

And thanks for the kind words--it's very much appreciated.

Thanks!  I can tell you it was a chore just getting it into position to get the picture.
