Description

I started this one in 2009 and set it aside to work on other projects. I had guests at the studio who showed interest in it and so I finally got around to finishing the piece. I think it turned out pretty good. I don't think this is the best image of the piece and will be trying to get a better photo of it. FULL VIEW PLEASE.
Though the ballon changes color, the journey continues.
Acrylics, pastel, collage on wood.
Approximately 30x40 inches.
Sold
S. Fitts, 2010

Wow, there really is a sense of journeying in this piece. But it's more than that; the leaf you have isolated from the tree, placed next to the balloon, seems like the passengers' impression of the tree. They are much closer to the tree than us the viewers, and they could see the individual leaves. It's like a thought bubble, or more like a stamp on their psyches.

I have been back and forth on that leaf. I thought of it as a portal but then I like your interpretation of it being an impression of the tree on the passengers.
Thank you!

A lot of your paintings are just so flexible that way.

"They journeyed until they found the One Tree of the desert, hope entering their hearts at last. Soon they would land beneath its cool shelter, soon they would find water as they dug beneath the sand, soon they would find rest."

I fought the urge to tone down the color but the person who is buying the painting liked it the way it is.

Great piece, Seth!

But I have one question. I often see these circles in your works and i try to figure out what they mean...

Some symbolism of the Circle: Totality; wholeness; the self-contained; the infinite; recurrence; cyclic; completion; fulfillment; the Moon; the Sun.

Beautiful as always I was reading your mediums for this piece and I got myself thinking, how do you make the geometric outlines here and there in your pieces. I know you paint on a surface, but what surface exactly?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SethFitts In reply to Building-HP [2010-03-19 12:16:09 +0000 UTC]

This one is painted on a wood panel approximately 30x40 inches. The square/rectangular shape the balloon is on is paper. The squares at the bottom were drawn and painted. This was another piece that I did not like and thus painted over. If I remember correctly, there use to be a face where the balloon is now.
Thank you!

Completely enchanting. I want to climb aboard and fly away!
The sense of space is phenomenal! I feel tiny staring at this piece. The tree stretches on forever; it would be glorious to see in real life. A wonderful adventure!

SethFitts In reply to ScribalWriter [2010-03-19 12:12:38 +0000 UTC]

I actually thought about making the balloon smaller to make the tree seem larger.
Thank you so much!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ScribalWriter In reply to SethFitts [2010-03-20 02:20:07 +0000 UTC]

The size seems just right to me. Any smaller and I'm not sure the impact would be the same, never mind the compositional balance. I'm glad you decided on the size you did. The tree is a powerful force, and so is the balloon (just on a smaller scale. ^__^)

Beautiful!! I like how you used more intense colors in this one, but it is still very much your style.

SethFitts In reply to FeathersOnFire [2010-03-19 01:29:19 +0000 UTC]

The intense color was not intended in the beginning. I was going to tone down the but the person who is buying this liked the brightness of the tree so I left it.
Thank you!

Shock Horror! Colour! XD

I love how you've been able to work with the bold green without losing the integral slight grittyness that makes your work yours. <3

SethFitts In reply to FionaCreates [2010-03-18 22:03:11 +0000 UTC]

Very bold color. I was going to tone down the yellow-green but the person who is buying this liked it so much I decided to leave it alone.
Thank you!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FionaCreates In reply to SethFitts [2010-03-18 22:05:22 +0000 UTC]

I think toneing it down would have lost something. The best decision was to stay with the green so bright
