I imagine it would be quite amusing if, somehow, Arnold almost accidentally caught a glimpse of Helga's oh-so-sacred shrine to her beloved footballhead.I think this could easily be an event that takes place either before or after they get together. Either way, having Arnold see that stuff in her closet would be pretty embarrassing for Helga.
Poor crazy girl probably didn't shut it properly and wasn't thinking that this might happen when Arnold had to come to her house to work on some school project.
"No, you really don't want to look in there, Arnoldo. It's just a boring old closet...full of junk... Woo boy! Is it a mess in there! I tell ya! Nothing to see in there...heh heh."
