Description In the Trutsia-Gokudin war, was the first official use of Mechs by one of the fighting side...

But soon, the Mech users -and their enemies- noticed their weakness... or at least, the weakness of these first and second generation mechs:

Slow, underarmed, costly, without enough armor and tall, easy targets, it become clear these first mechs costed much more than the equivalent tanks... and were less useful.

Despise the orders of a proud government who negated their mistake in spending in such way the Empires money, the Gokudin army commanders stopped using the mechs as assault units, and unless there was absolute air supremacy -due the weakness of the mechs in AA protection- and there was no enemy armor present, they avoided to use them...

And so, they use became marginal, to operations to unprotected or slighty protected infantry forces, specially conscripts who loose their nerves in the sight of the giant machines, because even in these circunstances, these first and second generation mechs where more vulnerable than the tanks against anti-armor weapons...

It's the giant dune-buggy things that have me most impressed! Maybe the scale is off, but they look larger than the trucks on the road--and they don't need a proper road!

I didn't know to apply perspective back then, as you can see with the soldiers -all the same size-, so these dune-buggy thinks aren't larger than the trucks

I sucked in aplying perspective then, even when I know some basics about it XD

Oh, come on - diesel trucks vs. walker mechs and a very high-speed looking buggy?? This is the least fair fight ever! XD

Well, not so unfair, as they have already take out one of the mechs, and most of the enemy infantry XD

That's only because the artist behind the image is biased! He loves old-world combat and is just using the mechs to represent his displeasure with modern combat!

I think the more interesting combats where from the XIX and first half of the XX century (maybe up to the 70's)...

I love the weapons and uniforms specially of the 1870's-1940's

But being realistic... the whole idea behind mechs, in a relistic point of view, SUCKS! XD

I'm not very fond of the 'Gundam'-style robot-man mechs (couldn't you just lay mines and blow out it's legs?)but I will take a Metal Gear type walker anyday! XD

Think of a tank (body and turret) but instead of treads it has robot chicken legs. Pretty low to the ground, fairly functional. I mean, still kind of dumb, but not as bad as a four-story tall robot soldier with a laser sword. XD
