Description The weary traveler walked down the path. It was a beautiful day of autumn, sunny but with a sun that didn't get you warmer...
but his old feet wasnt as before, so he wondered if he could ask for some water in the next farm, as well as a chance to rest for a moment...

it was then, when he noticed three little creatures standing in the road in front of him.

"Good day" he said with a smile.

"HO-MAN!!" said one standing in front of the others, in a leading role. "I'm an Ozcura warrior!! Hand us now your goodies!"

If they where ozcuras, surely he get himself lost in his way to Reivelin.

"I'm afraid I don't have much of interest for some great warriors like yourselves..." he said, before producing from his bag three polished metal crosses. "Hopefully this could work?"

"SHINEY! GIVE USSSS!"  the Ozcurillas grey orc children said, grabing the crosses. The traveler smiled to himself. As he was told, seemed to be the case: grey orcs liked shiny things.

"Now, we want provisions!" demanded the 'raiders'  to the traveler, who with a smile, handed them some communion wafer the ozcurillas ate eagerly. He provided them more, until they where satisfied. They where hungry, he noted.

"Hope you enjoyed it" the traveler said to the children, before looking to the near buildings. While in the distance it seemed like a normal farm, upon closer inspection, they where rather runned down, without roof some, others with the tatch damaged and without fire, so there was no one cooking. It seemed rather... abandoned.

"Where are your parents?" he then asked.

"Our mommies are fighting ho-mans" said the 'leader' of the Ozcurillas. "Our Papa went out to get some more mommies."

He wondered, if the "mommies" of the ozcurillas where still alive, if they had been in the campaigns against the human-elven settlers of Polforia... and it seems, in a typical attitude of an Ozcuro, rather than taking care of his children, will prefeer to seek for some more wives rather than to do some actual work.

"So you are all on your own?"

"We are ozcura warriors!" said the 'leader'. The traveler then noticed, that many more ozcurillas -children of ozcuras grey orcs-, where looking from far away, from the ruined farms. All of them with hungry looks in their face, he guessed. Rather than a single farm, it seems it was quite a settlement.

A settlement without parents to take care of their hungry children, with winter coming and with a roof falling over their heads. He doubted, the children would make it alive.

The traveler sighed then. Reivelin would need to wait. From what he was teached, these creatures as the ozcuras where monsters, hellspawn, and he saw much of that as the Dark Legions sacked and destroyed the Five Kingdoms... But the children weren't to be blamed by the deeds of their parents, he guessed.

"Let's go fix a tatch, no?" the traveler decided. He hoped, when either or if the Ozcuro returned -or the ozcuras, if they survived the war-, will be thankful enough for finding their children alive for the winter to not kill the "Ho-Man" first, and ask later...

And as they walked to the ruined buildings, the traveler wondered if he was going to try to convert the non-humans to his church, how would the official church react to such attempt... would be celebrated or an heressy, he wondered?

Based on a comment of kanyiko , who complained how humans always seemed to be on "realigious zeal overdrive kill mode" regarding Ozcuras: however as stated sometime before -long, long ago-, while this was one vision by some of the members of the Karentian Church, there would be some heretic movements that tried to save non-humans... even if this "save" was "save their souls". But sometimes as in this case, it was as well to save in a more physical sense... at least until / if the parents come!

And in case before anybody make any sort of comment in that direction: no. This monk is NOT one of these monks. He wonders and cares about souls, and not something else . Wanted to show a good man, not something perverse or with a second, terrible meaning.

Till this day one of my favorite images, that and the one about the Christmas misunderstanding between this kindly priest and his little congregation of "ador-kable" ozcuras! XD I don't think I've seen anywhere else a tasteful and well thought out fantasy world that has straight up Christianity (as in from 'our' world not a "not-chritian" equivalent) organically integrated into it, giving a sense if history and context. And it's done in a way that doesn't come of as overly preachy or unsubtle jab at the Christian faith and its numerous denominations, it's truly amazing how you've managed to pull it off. So thank you for this amazing art and the beutiful world of Aiers you created with such love and passion!

This is Perfect! I just read your entry about the "Redemptionists." I can't think of a better view of the other side of a coin with using Christianity in a fantasy world setting. I apologies in advance if your not a Christian and what I say next may offend you, but I'm getting a bit of a "Chronicles of Narnia" feel here, for more mature readers in a way.

Peaceful and happy pics are a balm to me whenever I feel gloomy, they cure every bad mood in an instant.  Your magic works even better than music!

That is what I love about your non-violent artwork.   This piece for instance has a mixture of cute and "Grandfather Christmas" kinda feeling for me.

OMG, it's John Huston!  Rather, it looks like me until I got thinner on top and thicker in the middle.  Still, there are those who worry more about the salvation of a life than of the sufferer's soul.  I'm somewhat like that.  Religion is a personal matter; when you help someone then that brings you closer to your reward.

He gives them communion wafers as food and in a couple of months BAM! Suprise conversion!
Wich may turn up to be like what happened in Argentina and Paraguay, with the Jesuits and converted indians holding up aganist the bandeirantes who want to kill the priests and enslave the indians.
Just change indians for ozcuras and bandeirantes for knights and you can just put it into Aiers.

...and thus the little Ozcurillas were turned into Christians, and were baptized, and promised to bring the Truth about God to all people. And then they grew up and became real Ozcura warriors, and they went to crusade to explain the true faith to all infidels. And since they were no good orators they explained their ideas with fire and sword, drowning the infidels in blood. And they did it with sincere love to their God, having no idea that the God would not approve their actions...

Best thing ever.

The ozcura coming back were greatly surprised, when they come back their village and did not find angry hungry ozcurilla and ozcuro requesting their services, but old hooman treating their ozcurillo.
They said to each other: "He looks weak. He must have great and terrible magic to drive away our ozcuro. Lets not make him angry and accept him as our new ozcuro."

And the hooman liven in their village many years, giving prosperity to his ozcura, but never using angry word or gesture, which only made him more respected, as greatly his magic is something not to be used lightly.
Even neighbouring ozcura started to fear his mystical power and wisdom and dare not attack his village, but some came in peace to give respect of his mysterious god and listen his words.

Look at little Ho-Man nailed to wood!  Much magic!

These 'warriors' will grow up fast.  Likely becoming real warriors.  I fear that certain teachings of modesty and chastity won't rub off well.

I question him ever making it to Reivelin.  He may have found his congregation?  At least until the parents come back.

StringPetounPing In reply to larqven [2018-11-11 21:49:07 +0000 UTC]

This imply that the parents will come back. Ozcuras are at war and the ozcuros is most likely trying to steal some ozcuras from a another heird. It is dangerous business.
