Blackheart
Skyworld is one of the most epic, beautiful and inspiring albums by Two Steps From Hell yet and also one of my favourite albums ever. Blackheart is dramatically epic and beautiful and very emotional as well and I have been wanting to draw something inspired by this piece for a long time now.
I haven't done much traditional art lately and I've been neglecting markers and coloured pencils for too long. Also, I wanted to draw something that I love, dragons.
I really enjoyed working on this. I was in no rush so I could pay full attention to every detail and just enjoy the feel of traditional media. Even though I work digitally for the majority of time, nothing beats traditional art. There's just something more real and warm in it.
This is one of my personal favourites. I really like how it came out.

I think the picture definitely suits the piece. The lily reflects the delicate elegance while the big, black dragon gives feel to the fantastical magnitude and power of the score. It kind of is a good picture to illustrate orchestra. Some might say it has more fanciful finesse than something like heavy metal, something like an intricate flower, but within that is definitely a strength highly capable of moving its audience like an imposing dragon. And a mythical being perfectly illustrates the sense of magic orchestra instils.
I just love the contrast. No one would ever expect such a grand, dark, ferocious-looking dragon to come out of something so small and delicate as a little flower. Two polar opposites blending in perfect harmony and it is gorgeous. Well done.Β

Thank you very much! I was very inspired by the contrasts in the song, the softness and even frail beauty of it and also how strong and dramatic it got. I didn't actually think of the visual elements that create the contrast in the picture all that much, I just simply drew what the song made me feel like. I'm glad to hear it works!
