The first personal painting of 2019! I didn't have any huge ambitions about this piece. I just wanted to paint a tiger with some starry stuff dripping all over it. The main thing was that I just wanted to enjoy the painting process. I have been doing a nice amount of personal art lately but there has always been some other goal with all those pieces, such as draw an awesome piece of fanart, to learn something or to execute something more ambitious. With this I just felt pure joy. I didn't know how this painting was going to turn out, and I didn't really care either. It was a fun journey of discovery from start to finish and I just felt happy to be painting this. It made me realize how rarely I feel that nowadays.

I also wanted to test some new watercolour paper that I recently purchased. The brand is SMLT Art and their paper is just great. I think I have four different kinds of papers of theirs and it's quickly becoming a favourite brand of mine. The quality is great and this watercolour paper is very fitting for my technique and it takes masking fluid well, too.

I hope this piece gives you a similar sense of joy, too!
