Description
This is my art trade with , it's her character Infernalis Svartan.This character was pretty fun to do, epic spikyness and fireyness 8D
There was a blackout in the middle of working on this, luckily I save frequently and all i had to redo was the horns. Remember to save frequently people! XD
This was all done digitally in Photoshop CS5 with a Wacom Intuos 4 tablet.

Yeah, I know that problem about "saving more often" =_=;
My Pc has totally random freezes from time to time... (Mostly when watching YouTube videos, too bad I listen to music that way XD)

Even if you have a perfectly good computer lots of creative software can randomly crash on you, especially 3D software haha. I not only save frequently but I even save completely new files every now and then on big pieces (as sometimes they can get corrupted and you'll lose ALL of your work which can be a disaster D

A beautiful creature! The colors are amazing. Did you at first draw the scetch on paper or did you start right away with the colors?

I did this all digitally. I almost never draw on paper really
I started with a very rough sketch (they are super scribbly) and I'll block out the basic shape, then I'll start painting rough details Β and then I start refining with finer detail. I often tweak the colours as the final step. Sometimes I will paint in black and white and then I'll add colour in the end, and sometimes I'll work in colour from the start and just tweak it slightly in the end, like hue/saturation, curves, etc. This is often how I work with my more 'painty' style drawing that are lineless.Β

I often make the mistake to go for the "photorealistic approach" which never works. I would love to try the "painty style" myself. Your answer is going to be helpful there. Thanks again!

I still think it's good to try and study real subjects to get a good understanding of form, colours/lighting and texturing. But with painty styles there are many very useful tutorials on deviantart to learn different shading techniques.
