Description This was an assignment for an art class I took three summers ago. It was one of our final projects: a surrealistic still life. I probably stepped out of the bounds of the assignment since only the candle stick was realy drawn from life, but oh well. This was a definite step outside my box. I'm not a big fan of surrealism and I had a lot of trouble coming up with a good idea. Our teacher told our class to avoid using eyes, and somehow every single one of us had an eye somewhere in our final piece.

I used a reference picture for the dragon. The orginal is by Michael Whelan.

I think this is cool.I envy artists who can do fantastical work. I feel utterly retarded when it comes to that. And it bums me out because I`ve allways thought it would be so cool to work as a conceptual artist in the film industry, but you have to be able to draw well from your imagination.

I understand completely. This is the one and only surrealistic piece I'ver done, and it's likely to stay that way. I'm such a realist, dragons and gryphons and other mythological creatures is about as far as I go.

I know exactly what picture that dragon is from! And I didn't even have to think about it, it's one of my favorite Pern series covers ^_^ Micheal Whelan's dragons rock!

Great job on this, I love all the little details that you can look for!

I'm a big fan of Anne McCaffrey's stuff. I've read all but like two of the Pern series. And I adore Whelan's work. His dragons are just as I see them in my head!

Agreed! ^_^ Some of the other cover artists dragons didn't look right, Whelans just fit perfectly.
