Description Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder that can occur after you have been through a traumatic event. A traumatic event is something horrible and scary that you see or that happens to you. During this type of event, you think that your life or others' lives are in danger. You may feel afraid or feel that you have no control over what is happening.

Anyone who has gone through a life-threatening event can develop PTSD. These events can include:

* Combat or military exposure
* Child sexual or physical abuse
* Domestic abuse
* Terrorist attacks
* Sexual or physical assault
* Serious accidents, such as a car wreck.
* Natural disasters, such as a fire, tornado, hurricane, flood, or earthquake.

After the event, you may feel scared, confused, or angry. If these feelings don't go away or they get worse, you may have PTSD. These symptoms may disrupt your life, making it hard to continue with your daily activities.

Complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD) is a psychological injury that results from protracted exposure to prolonged social and/or interpersonal trauma with lack or loss of control, disempowerment, and in the context of either captivity or entrapment, i.e. the lack of a viable escape route for the victim. C-PTSD is distinct from, but similar to, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Though mainstream journals have published papers on C-PTSD, the category is not formally recognized in diagnostic systems such as DSM or ICD.

C-PTSD involves complex and reciprocal interactions between multiple biopsychosocial systems. It was first referred to by Judith Herman in her book Trauma & Recovery and an accompanying article. Forms of trauma include sexual abuse (especially child sexual abuse), physical abuse, emotional abuse, domestic violence or torture

I really do like how you have multiple causes for PTSD. The stereotype is the combat/war version, it's the most heard of but it can be caused by many different things. It's really a horrible disease that some still think is just a joke.

you forgot one. in the listings of things that cause ptsd. being bullied.
it's very hard for me to say this......
but....
seven years suffering ptsd for me.
please.
no one who reads this judge me due to my illness.
I'm still a kind and understanding person.
I just wish that I had someone to talk to who would understand what I'm going through.

10 years this august. It's hard being a guy having it. You tell them and they think you're crazy, then back off. Women want nothing to do with you, friends try and set your triggers off for amusement.

I know a lot of people who've had this. Some people actually claim it's made up for attention, but I know and believe it's real and the victims really suffer.

I have PTSD because of abusive parents and babysitters. It's no fun and people treat it like it's a joke. It isn't. It's terrible seeing horrifying events over and over in flashbacks and nightmares. Then having people telling me to "move on and leave the past behind" is almost more than I can bear sometimes. Thank you so much for making this stamp.
