Description Here's Franklin, sitting all pretty and eating a bit of watermelon in my hand.

I love his soft fur, his wonderful personality and those tapered dumbo ears of his.

Franklin was being given away by a woman who really shouldn't have kids or animals of any sort. She lived in a 1 bedroom apartment above a burger joint and smoked and blasted the tv indoors. The picture she posted in the ad of Franklin made us all jump to our feet and do everything we could to get him out.

This was Franklin's life before I took him in:

Please remember: NEVER BUY, WHEN YOU CAN ADOPT! There are so many beautiful, lovable, animals out there needing homes and a little genuine love.

Thank you. It was actually a group effort. The woman was completely unreliable. She originally asked 50 dollars for the rat AND his crappy cage. After we tried to talk her into JUST giving us the rat, she lied and told us her cat ate him. Thinking that sounded very suspicious, we actually had 2 other people contact her and others helping to raise the money needed to get him.

I ended up paying not a cent. In all, the woman got $40 for Franklin and the crappiest, dirtiest hamster cage you've ever seen.

Ugh I just hate people like that. We rescued 36 from someone, I'd gone cos she had an advert up for '2 baby rats for homes' So I called up and asked what colours and she was all 'Some white, some brown and some a mix of colours' So I thought something was up and went along. It was horrific. 36 rats crammed into 3 tiny hamster cages with nothing on the base of the floor but 2 inches of their own filth, it was so packed in I had to scrape it out. They'd been feeding them on cookies and cooked pasta... I'm sure that's why none of the other females were pregnant, too malnourised to make babies There was two litters of babies, one in each of the slightly larger cages, and mixed sexes in both those. 6 large bucks in a 'canary' cage (not that I'd ever use the cage for birds it was that tiny) and they took it in turns to sit on the single bird perch and try to clean themselves... I was horrified, told her I'd take em all to stop her having to deal with it any more and she all but threw them at me. Stupid people!

Yikes. But I thank you so much for helping those poor ratties. This happens all the time though, and unfortunately, I've never been brave enough to take on such a large project.

Did you end up finding homes for our rescued ratties?

My hubby wasn't best amused with the number of em but he couldn't leave em. We rehomed on a good half of them, and kept some back outselves. Took our total number owned to 30. That was some years back now, and we've only got the 5 girlies now, and we love em.
