The grass looks like it's in movement. I like the fact that you left it grey-scale and not fully colored. The orange adds enough accent making this piece kick total ass - plus, Jack is pretty damn cool.

I like your gallery! You got a wide range of bad ass art to animal study. Really cool, you've got a sure talent!

my brother wants me to draw their children, but that would be an interesting endeavour o.O i might try drawing Sally first, so i can get an idea of how her design is i went by your page by the way, i really like your writing, it's very provoking.

well, the biggest way to get seen is to check out other deviants (in my opinion.. in case you were trying to figure it out )

That would be really interesting. I'll have to watch to see what you come up with Thank you very much, I'm so glad you like it. I'm trying to get back into writing more regularly after taking a short break to finish up work. It's just taking me a little while to get back up to full steam

i can't wait for more of your stuff, i know how work tends to get backed up quite a bit. i have about five sketches that are loaded, but not colored what do you do for work? if you don't mind me asking.

Aww.. yay. I hope to get some writing up in the next few days I *USED TO* work as a teacher's assistant with Emotionally Disturbed teenagers. I just recently finished working there, so I'm currently unemployed I am working on my Master's degree, and my fall schedule is just too loaded to work too.

I don't think I could ever do that.. seems like a hard job to me any idea of a major yet? I'm working on a Master's of Education in counseling.. basically that's just fancy for a school counselor

hehehe, my dad would love that i'm going into the arts, so i just figured a Master's in Fine Arts would set me up pretty well i'm starting classes in august, so i'm pretty psyched.

as for waitressing, it's a hard job, but you get used to it after a while.

weitmare In reply to Shay118 [2007-06-23 12:49:23 +0000 UTC]

Sounds fun! I majored in Art for a while, in undergrad. It ended up being my minor, and I switched my major to Psychology. Mostly because I love art so much, and I was afraid that trying to make a living at it would suck the joy out of it for me. Do you have any careers in mind? I think that's where I struggled at the end, the only things I could think of were to be an Art teacher, or to freelance. Neither seemed appealing to me at the time. I've still toyed around with the Art teacher idea from time to time, but I don't know, I hear my father in my mind telling me it's not a good idea.

You said your dad would love that, why's that? Does he work in a school? Or were you being sarcastic?

That's good that you are excited, for what it's worth, I really loved my art classes. They were the most fun I had in college, even when it was a hard assignment. *sigh* I miss those classes sometimes, they really pushed me to be creative. I think I need that kick in the pants sometimes

Shay118 In reply to weitmare [2007-06-23 14:48:46 +0000 UTC]

hehehe, my dad was a middle school principal, and his counselors enjoyed making his life--uh--miserable. his new counselor is like his best friend right now though, so i think he's over his "dislike."

to be honest, i don't really know what i want to do in the field either, there are so many things i could do, but i just don't know what i would enjoy just yet. which is why i am starting out with a Fine Arts thing to decide if i really like that stuff. as for art teacher, well my own high school art teacher told me not to do it

i'm just excited to get into the classes and make what i do better, and get a style pinned down. i have no idea what to expect

weitmare In reply to Shay118 [2007-06-23 23:51:45 +0000 UTC]

ahh.. I can't imagine that, but then I liked the last two principals I worked with

I think it's good to go into it with an open mind. I'm sure you'll find many things you'll love. I know what you mean about developing a style, I really feel like mine developed in those classes. I hope you're going to post your work, I can't wait to see it

Shay118 In reply to weitmare [2007-06-24 04:02:38 +0000 UTC]

definitely, that's what i'm hoping for! i've never actually taken a "real" art class, with assignments and what not. my teacher kind of let us draw whatever we wanted

i still have my greek art inspired sketches waiting to go! the first one is Hades and Persephone--i hope it'll go over well

what did you enjoy doing the most? as in mediums?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

weitmare In reply to Shay118 [2007-06-24 12:50:24 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I think my art teacher was pretty much the same in high school.

That sounds really interesting, I look forward to seeing that

The most? Wow, well.. I really loved a bunch of mediums, but I guess as far as "fine art" I really loved oil painting (though my first love was acrylic), pastels, and sketching with conte crayons really helped me develop my style. I actually minored in "crafts" so I really fell in love with jewelry making (metal work), and glass work ("cool" techniques). Some of that I hope to be able to continue once I have some more time and more room. There are things I can't do without a kiln, and as of right now I don't have access to one. I've thought about taking some classes just to have access to a kiln and other things I don't have right now, but gotta finish my degree first

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Shay118 In reply to weitmare [2007-06-26 05:22:47 +0000 UTC]

really oils? i haven't used those yet, i hear they're hard to work with; pastels too, but i've played with those before what kind of stuff did you make with glass oo: that sounds so cool!

i loved sculpting with clay, that was such a fun thing to do; taking a grey lump of matter and morphing it into something graceful--i loved it! but i had to stop because the kiln at our school died too and they didn't get another one until one day before i graduated....

it has been exactly a month since i graduated i'm shocked! it feels like it's been at least three months! wow...did things move fast for you when you graduated?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

weitmare In reply to Shay118 [2007-06-26 16:14:59 +0000 UTC]

I had never used them before college. I didn't think they were hard to work with really. They were a pain to clean up, but there were benefits to using them, such as longer drying time (allowed for changes more easily) and better blending.

As far as the glass, I made plates, poured glass forms, fused glass forms, and played with inclusions and stained glass. I used glass some in jewelry making too, now that was a fun class! I'll have to take some pictures and post so you can see.

I love working with clay too. I did more of it in high school though. Time does seem to fly. It's been a while since I graduated as an undergrad and even longer since I graduated high school. So yeah, I guess it has seemed to go by rather quickly. I can't believe I've finished 2 years of graduate school!

Shay118 In reply to weitmare [2007-06-26 21:37:00 +0000 UTC]

i hope it goes as fast for me, i'm chomping at the bit to start! i even went to Michael's today and bought some graphite pencils and some watercolor pencils i never realized how expensive these darn supplies are going to cost.

have you tried selling some of your jewelry and stuff? i'd love to see them i've always been fascinated with glass art, is it really hard to do? i mean it looks like it would be easy to start, but then again--so does sketching

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

weitmare In reply to Shay118 [2007-06-27 02:50:22 +0000 UTC]

I can understand! Oh yeah... especially to start.. but once you have most of the basics, it's not so bad..

I haven't sold any jewelry, but I've given some away. The only thing I ever sold was a painting, but I only sold it for around $25. I was just happy it was going to someone who would love it. I didn't think glass art was hard. It was really fun once I learned the basics. For the "cool" glass techniques (meaning it's cold to start and then put in the kiln), it was just about painting or laying the pieces out (once you've cut them) and leaving them in there for the right amount of time. If I don't post the pics of my work soon, remind me. It's a busy week, so I might forget
