Another shot from late December 2010, with this one having been taken at Düsseldorf Central Station, a place not exactly famous for its nice architecture.

What we have here is an S-Bahn train on the line S6, with such trains being the slowest possible kind we have, since they stop extremely frequently, pretty much at every tree. For many years, this line was firmly in the hands of class 143 locomotives and x-type cars, into which passengers are squeezing in large numbers here. These days, like pretty much all S-Bahn lines, the S6 is serviced by modern EMUs, putting an end to the loco hauled trains that used to be a trademark of the Ruhr area.

Personally, I never used to care much about these slow and lowly trains, but I did like the boxy appearance of these locomotives. Ten years ago, I actually made a Tribute Series of the class 143, since they were being withdrawn from many lines at the time, usually ending up unused and later scrapped, despite their often young age. A combination of a lack of demand, low top speed and outdated technology from the former GDR that proved more difficult to maintain as time passed.
