Description sorry i had no idea what category to put this under, it's too much hassle to put it in the film category and...well...it is to do with advertising in a way

anyway, I've entered a competition for the Scottish Book Trust called 'The Book That Changed My Life' in which i have to promote the power of books and convince people to write about their favourite books on the site.

It had to be the time length of a normal advert (more than 30secs and less than 1min)

I wanted to have the book actually coming to life by using the pages themselves to represent the content in the forms of cutouts and sihoullettes...that damn cutting took ages! I thought I was gonna go insane at one point

anyhoo... the film can be seen here >>>>>>
[link]

it's not fantastic...i'm no professional so plz be kind

EDIT
I've been meaning to do this for ages

for those who are too lazy (i am one of these lazy breeds so it's cool) to watch the video on youtube (although that's not to say don't take a sneaky peek ) i have uploaded all the screenshots from ze vid.
Bottom row - Alice In Wonderland
Middle two screenshots - Moby Dick
Top Row - Harry Potter except the second from left...which is the White Witch from The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe along with the remaining two

i didn't name every screenshot...hopefully you can tell what they are if you've read the book

I'm a total book freak; book-burnings make me semi-rabid. Sorry to hear 2 books gave their lives for your project, but in this case I believe it was worth it! This project rocks! Congratulations on winning the competition! I thought the film was very well done as well. And yes, I still love Pop-Up books, too!

This Is Really Good, But I Sure Hope No Books Were Harm In The Process, But Then Again This Reminds Me One Of My Many ChildHood Memories...PoP Up BooKs!!!

Only one book died in the name of film D: a 'Pride and Prejudice' book from the charity shop haha ...Oh and a really old love story book to practice on.

Thank you very much for the comment ...i loved (still do) pop-up books! used to blow my mind as a child. I wish i could have done something like that for the final film..but skilled pop-ups require a bit of patience, physics and maths i imagine...my poorest subjects!

and many apologies for my reply being so late...i haven't been on my account for months

My god, this is absolutely incredible! Such a beautiful and creative way of showing how amazing books are! The bottom two have to be my favourites- especially the splash from the whale tail! Very well done <3

Ah! It was brilliant! Those little cuttings must've been hell for you to get out. Did you draw them out first or go at it freehand?

shibbyfish In reply to viraldistortion [2009-11-30 20:20:45 +0000 UTC]

thank you muchly! i drew it out first...just so i knew what i were hacking away at man i do not want to cut anything out for a long time after that haha

Very nice! I would like to see more details in some of the "illustrations", but it's a good and strong idea. And the movie seems really good too. You did a really good job . I hope you win

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shibbyfish In reply to JoanaCroft [2009-11-16 21:54:17 +0000 UTC]

aww thank you very much i appreciate the comment

when you mean more detail in the "illustrations" do you mean more complex cutting? believe me i tried but you start to go a bit strange when you keep messing it up cos you've accidently cut the bits you weren't suppose to!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JoanaCroft In reply to shibbyfish [2009-11-18 18:30:34 +0000 UTC]

That was more or less what i meant, but i understand your point too. But it's a great work anyway .

Ah great, I've heard of this competition and the trust but never had any ideas genuine enough for it. However, this is superb; bonus points for C. S. Lewis love.
